Wow, a lot of narrowminded opinions about gays and lesbians here... Open your minds people, accept that you aren't always right. People have asked me if I'm gay quite a few times or just assumed I was only to find out later that I am indeed straight when they'd meet my girlfriend... well, ex-girlfriend now. I'm admittedly one of those sensitive guys everyone loves to hate. I have a "soothing, even affeminate voice", in the words of a friend of mine. I've also been told my style of dress is "emo" and makes me "look a little gay"... That's probably where people thinking I'm gay comes from.

I have a very hard time telling if people are gay/lesbian or not... My "instinct" on that is quite dull, either that or I just don't judge people (which is true). I think "gaydar" is just being judgemental and using stereotypes.

Well, my respect for the apology for (possibly) attempting to pick a fight... It's no problem, I would've left this thread if you had, I'm a lover not a fighter. I understand how my message could've been misinterpreted.

The thing is that these aren't true about evey lesbian out there. In fact not one of them is true for me.

So unattractive girls become lesbians. Thats just stupid. Plus I am plenty attractive. Just ask Amp. Wink

First of this confuses me. The stereotype normally goes that lesbians have TOO many male friends. However I have pretty much the same amount of guy friends as I do girls.

All the lesbians I know aren't even butch, they are even more feminine than heterosexual women. So dressing like a guy or even short hair doesn't mean anything. Gay guys are the same way, all the ones I know dress and act like heterosexual guys, and you wouldn't even know they were gay unless they told you.

On the subject of gaydar i can spot a gay guy a mile a way. Lesbians are harder to see but if you see a girl w/ her hair cut short and dressing like a guy then you know...

The original draft of The Lord of the Rings featured Chuck Norris instead of Frodo Baggins. It was only 5 pages long, as Chuck roundhouse-kicked Sauron's ass halfway through the first chapter.

You can't classify one group of people by how a few in that particular group might act. For example, if you see a group of teens walking down the street wearing all black, would your first thought automatically be that they goth emo teens who cut out "pain" or would your thought be that they are just trying to make some kind of underlying fashion statement? It would probably be the first of the two thoughts just because of the stereotypes we have of people here in America.

Because in our modern American society it's looked down on to be any bit of an effeminate man. Only recently through the "metrosexual movement" have a few aspects (of what would have been considered feminine only a decade ago) been reconsidered.

Whereas females can act pretty much however they want, because females are the "lower sex" in our society, and being more manly, even lesbian, is valued.

How can you even begin to back up such a claim? Some people do choose to drink enough to black out. You aren't born alcoholic.

I am generally able to pick out gay men, but I have a harder time figuring out lesbians. Not many straight men act feminine, but it's not unusual to find straight women acting butch. I know those are stereotypes, but they do seem to be true more often than not.

"Anyways, I was wondering about "gaydar". Why is that we are able to guess (and often guess correctly) a person's sexuality before speaking to them? Why is that lesbians are usually larger women with deeper voices? Why is that many gay men talk and walk a certain way?" - bluedemocrat

Because if we were take every gay person in the world we would find common threads in their past that they expierenced before deciding they were gay.

If homosexuality is really a choice, then why are there so many structural similarities between homosexuals? Is this just a coincidence.

There a strucutural similiarities between every human so I don't think this question makes any sense. While a drunk driver might look like everyone of us we don't say - he was bron drunk, he never made a choice.

You could put it that way:

fem·i·nine (fĕm'ə-nĭn) pronunciation
adj.

1. Of or relating to women or girls. See synonyms at female.
2. Characterized by or possessing qualities generally attributed to a woman.
3. Effeminate; womanish.
4. Grammar. Designating or belonging to the gender of words or grammatical forms that refer chiefly to females or to things classified as female.

Normality is an illusion by the way, so dont try to take what I say out of context and get at odds with me over it...
