Now you cannot admit that you don't hear this a lot of the times coming out of a black person's mouth.

I'm not saying this is bad, I'm just pointing out a natural tendency in their language, such as Texans and "ya'll."

I sometimes use the phrase "y'all" because it is easier to type/say than "all of you" or "you all".

I'm from the Midwest, and we don't really have any great dialect...

If you listen to the dialects of most people in films or on TV (that is to say, when they don't designate where they are from), that is what my vocal tone is. We like to think of ourselves as "dialectless" even though we know we sound funny to those from other regions. It is just where you are raised and what you are used to hearing.

I have a lot of family from Canada and we go up there every year for a family reunion. Every year, my mom picked up a slight accent, "What are you talking aboot?" and "It's a nice day out, eh?"...it is SO funny. Then there was one girl who is from Windsor (I'm from metro Detroit) and she was FASCINATED by the way I spoke. She's like "how do you say ____?", where she proceeded to fill in every word she had ever heard. The only realy difference was in the word hockey. I said "ha-key" and she said hawk-ey". It was really funny...

So when you type "ya'll" you're trying to be cool? What! I'm from the south and I say ya'll. I also type it, text it, and write it. It's who I am and it's who alot of people are. White people also say "you know what I'm saying." If it was just ours we would have given it up a long time ago. People bite "our sayings" so much I can't remember if I'm supposed to talk white or black. Give me a break.

I don't think I mind "ya'll" when it is spoken, since it is more of an inflection, more of the dialect than the person. A person cannot help that much.

But I hate it when people type it. It is so obvious that they are trying to make themselves appear cool or unique or stupid or whatever it is they want to be viewed as when people read it. It is not necessary.

And you don't have to be so mean. If you didn't notice, joey said that it wasn't bad, that it was just an observation.

I admit to Y'all and I also say "I Tell You What" every once in a while

Proper Use of Y'all

Y'all- Singular as in you say to your buddy "how y'all doing?"
All Y'all- Plural as in to your buddies "How is all y'all doing?"

if your going to murder the english language at least do it correctly.

Hah, I think it's kindof funny. Some black people say it following every sentence. Just like some silly white girls say 'like' every five words.
