hey all of you fired up christians out there. i just wanted to hear other christians opinions or personal scenarios of what their own prayer and/or worship is like.
i love praying and worshiping god in church at home in school or wherever, but a majority of my youth group doesn't feel the same way or so it seems. most of them don't participate in praying or worshiping (singing and whatnot) and some of them won't even stop talking during prayer and worship. it is probably my biggest pet peeve. i cannot stand it when i and my fellow youth group memebers are intense in prayer or worship and to my left i've got a kid cracking jokes or the one t my right laughing at him. i think part of the reason our youth group lacks maturity is because we lack serious christians. there's a wonderful trumpeter in eight grade who attends my youth group. i'm also a fairly decent trumpet player and a junior in high school. he will not play his trumpet in church if i'm not along side him because he's afraid he'll screw up and play a wrong note. as it is, we only have a song list and the key it's in... no notes... so we both miss a note here and there once in a while. but the issue isn't making mistakes or not, it's getting into an attitude of worship and playing your heart and soul out for god. worship is not something that we do, it's a lifestyle and playing my trumpet is what i want to do with my life so i'd like to play for Him. if any of you are jazz fans, i encourage you to listen to the trombone jazz stylings of one, wycliffe gordon. he's probably the best trombone player that has ever lived and if you read the details on the inside cover of any of his cd's you will find that he is also a christian. that is what i'd like to be like. i want to make music, preferably jazz, but acknowledge god for giving me the ability to do so. it just irritates me that he won't play for god, but rather he plays for the audience... that's how it goes with most of the kids in my group. and when someone tells us that we do a good job with a song we do... how many of us do you suppose say, "let the glory be the lord's for it was his to begin with."
???
not many of us, that's for sure. do any of you face similar situations where your entire youth group with the exception of a few aren't turned on for this stuff? i hope not, but if so, is there any advice you can provide me with for my youth group memebers?
and one more thing... i'd just like to say that i've recently discovered that prayer is not something that we do either... it is an attitude... just as worship is a lifestyle... paul the apostle once said, "pray always unto the Lord." and that's what i believe we should do... make our lives a living worship and prayer unto the lord. saying a prayer and praying are two different things.
god bless,

Hey Hey once again(getting sick of me yet??) hehe well I face sort of a similar situation with my youth group. I am teh worship leader in ym youth group and I I used to be afraid that people would start laughing if you mess up and it bugged me so much when you were getting into a good song and u look at the audience and they are sitting around, chewing gum and sitting on their butts talking. I used to think... you people can't you see that God want's to be here??????
Basically... the best suggestion anyone can give us and others is PRAY UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS! I have been praying that God would bring an outpouring upon my church for the longest time and yesterday our worship service aloen was 2 hours!!!!!!!! It was so awesome to see God move like that! It's frustrating I understand completely... but God's will, will prevail and as for those people. they are the ones who will be so smacked up on God soooner than later.... mark my words,
Hope I helped Smile

God Bless,
katie
