I really don't know how many times I have heard people talk about racism toward blacks, asians, middle-easterners... everyone in the world has felt racism and at some point or another has expressed it. I completly empathize toward them and in no way say they haven't been hurt. But have anyone ever considered racism towards whites in this country? Whites have been stereotyped as rich, preppy people who will stomp upon anyone in order to reach the top. ISN'T THAT RACISM?? Many believe all whites are prejudice are toward other ethniciites and therefore, they are becoming prejudice towards us!!! Last time I checked, I was not white/ Look at a sheet of notebook paper.... that is the color of white! Have you EVEr seen anyone that shade of color before??? THerefore THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS WHITE! What about black? Look at the night sky. Have you EVEr seen people walk around htat color? NOT! Why is it ok for an african american to make a racist joke about a caucasion and its no big thing but flip the situation around and that person is about to be jumped.
I'm just saying.... EVERY RACE FEELS RACISM! AND JSUT BECUZ ONE PERSON FROM THAT RACE IS A BIGGOT DOESN'T MEAN THE ENTIRE RACE ARE BIGGOTS.

To respond to the "discrimination against black only point":

I think black people are really proving others wrong. They are superstars to be looked upon in NBA and NFL, even FIFA. They are famours actors (D. Washington and Will Smith.) They are Harvard graduates (Kwame Brown from the Apprentice. So they are really putting an image out their. They should be proud. We are.

I agree that all races experience certain prejudices however i also think its important to point out that african americans were singled out for discrimination in the U.S, there were no segregation laws for whites, chinese, or other ethnicities, only blacks. The U.S had to change its constitution so blacks could be equal. African Americans have suffered the most in history. even the fact that we have a special month to celebrate black history month is proof that equality does not truly exist because until black history can be equally studied and celebrated during the entire year like white history or other history, it's not truly equal.

personally i think that the fact that people who call themselves african american, latin american and so forth should be ashamed of themselves. yes i understand that they would like to remember their backrounds but that is just saying "Hey, im differant then you are" and its the differances that brought around racism. when i look at someone i dont see white or black or african american or caucasion, to be politacally correct, i see american. we all live in the same country why cant we forget about where eachother came from.
and another thing why is it that after all these years of fighting for equal rights is it that we still have people, like my vice principal, who feel so threatened by a racism lawsuit that they refuse to punish someone who does something wrong just because their skin is darker?? yet if i do the smallest thing wrong they give me the most severe punishment available short of suspension or expulsion just because my skin is lighter. its because they dont want to show favoritism. i dont know maybe i'm just a little wierd but has anyone else noticed things like this?

Interesting points...

A world we live in has not learned "multiculturalism" to its full definition.

When we do, we shall overcome.

Names are just a way of classifying. If you're white, you have fair skin. If you're black, you have dark skin. It's a throwback from the days when blacks were "savages" in Africa and white men ruled the world. When I call someone black or white, it's not a racist remark. I'd rather stay away from Caucasian and African-American. People think I use big enough words already.

Stereotyping is the real problem here. According to public opinion: blacks are gangstas, Asians are intellectuals, Middle Easterners are terrorists, whites are rich, and Mexicans are likely to stick a knife in your back. Perhaps those stereotypes are true in some cases. Some, but not all, blacks are gangstas. Some, but not all, Asians are intellectuals. And so on.

Last but not least, howYOUdoin, you totally stole my pic (even though you've been here longer)!

The terms white and black aren't meant to be offensive or accurate, they're just shorter than saying Europea-American, Caucaisian, and African-American.

However the stereotyped white is such a common thing now...in fact I'd argue it's the most common racial stereotype. Did anyone see Bringing Down The House with Steve Martin and Queen Latifah? Or the white people from Method and Redman? The guy played by the actor from King of Queens in the new Will Smith movie? It makes me groan when I see these...because they're so exaggerated and tacky.

Oh, I get called white all the time....

The nicer ones say I have pretty porcelain skin. The "funny" ones pretend to lose me when I walk near a white wall...

And continuing on Scott's note: I'm an English-Irish-Scottish-German-Swedish American. Heh.

Britta,

Don't take this the wrong way, but you should look up the definitions of discrimination and sterotypes. They aren't the same thing at all.

And not that I think there is fair equality for all, but when it comes to discrimination, I really hope you don't believe that whites are high on the list of people who have consistently been discriminated against!

And so did England & Africa and others. Africa still does. Black people enslaving black people.

The fact that you're anscestors were slaves doesn't make you better, or more special, just as the fact that a white person's anscestors owned slaves doesn't make them better ( I'm not saying anyone here does, but some people do. This was a general comment). It bugs me when someone thinks that because their anscestors had hardships, they should get special consideration, or use their race as an excuse for things.
Some hings, like extra points in colleges are there to help prevent discrimination agaist people of different ethnicities, but it isn't as big a problem today as it was in the past.

I don't mind if I'm called white, because I refer to African-American's as black. I just don't like it when people use color as a way to talk down to someone.

It doesn't matter, olpbabe if America started racism. what matters is that America participated in the strange institution called slavery(which engendered racism against BLACKS in USA) for about 200 years. What also matters is that even after the "emancipation" (in quotations because it was only a physical unshackling of BLACK people) there were still, as you all know, repressive, oppressive, and deceptive treatment of BLACK and BROWN people.
