GIVE ME A BREAK! most of this feminist stuff is a crock of crap. Look, I'm a girl. And while I think that we are equal in every way to guys, if we want to make as much money as any other guy, we need to STOP being couch potatoes and get to work!

i think that feminism has no clear definition. old-style, it was an extremist sorta thing that involved giving less 2 men and more 2 women, but now, i think that feminism is more about wanting completely equal rights. and if the new way is what femisism is, give me somma that!!! i totally agree!!! but, w/ the whole title 9 thingey, i think that its SOOO unfair that colleges are cancelling men's sports that were already there to make room for new female sports. that's a little thing called reverse-discrimination, and if we keep it up we'll need a title 10 to protect the rites of the guys!!!!! we just need equality, peace, and hapiness!!!luv, erica

how ironic you'd say that on a FEMINIST board.

Feminism is the TOTALLY RADICAL idea that women are people and should be treated as equals. geez. Anyone who isn't sexist is a feminist. Dont be scared of that word, people! I am proud to call myself a feminist. I;m not a loner bra burner. I have lots of very awesome friends, i date. The complete injustices that happen to women and girls everywhere are absolutely disgusting. IF YOU ARE NOT OUTRAGED, YOU"RE NOT PAYING ATTENTION. i love that phrase. its so true.

I think it's dumb. I mean, I am a girl, but there are some things that guys can do on their own just like there are things we can do on our own. Like football? Why would any woman need to play football anyways? I mean, come on! All anyone wants to do is find some controversy and something to argue about in everything that goes on today. JUST CHILL PEOPLE! LORD!

what you gals have been saying reminded me of my one guy-friend's info:
to treat a woman like an object- thats sick
to treat an object like a woman- thats just disgusting
okay annyways...
i wouldnt say im really a feminist...cause i dont overreact over a simple woman vs guy joke but i definately dont let guys walk all over me...
if a guy says i can't do something - i show him i can and he learns not to say that to another girl..
if an employer underpays me because im a girl...i would quit and file a complaint to someone (don't know who considering it hasnt happen)
lylas all

I totally agree, I mean seriously not every girl in this world is the kinda person who has to sleep with someone to get anywhere. Many of us women are just as intelligent and capable as men and probably more intelligent and capable than some. So we really should be treated with more respect than we are, I mean we're human too.

I'm a feminist but I'm not insane. I don't expect that if I was walking around in a bathing suit, guys would cat call at me. It happens. And for the sake of the guys that are reading this, yes, girls cat call too. If a guy was walking around in his boxers, how many girls do you think would whistle at him? Catcalling at someone isn't sexist or anti-feminist, and you shouldn't expect that to change anytime. To be attracted to someone, opposite and same sex alike, and to make some comment isn't necessarily right, but I don't consider it degrading. Maybe I'm just used to it. But then again, just because I'm walking around in a revealing outfit, a guy shouldn't come up to me and assume that I am a ****, or a prostitute. I have the right to wear a revealing outfit, but if i do, i should realize that I will get unwanted attention.

Feminism is great. People who don't like it just don't know what it's all about. They think that women expect to become equal to men overnight. We don't think that. We are all prepared to work hard to get the oppurtunities that men have, as long as we know that there will be postive changes, as a result of our hard work. As of right now, there is hardley a chance that we will be equal to men, because of ignorance and arrogance. And until we are equal to men, we will fight for it. It is our right to have the same oppurtunities as men do, and we are just trying to make other people see that.

i am a feminist. for starters feminism does not necessarily mean we're favoring women more than men. its the idea of equality between men and women to succeed in life, and to get past the stereotypes and the judgements people make. Let's not forget that some think that feminists are totally against men. we forget that there is such thing as reverse discrimination against males.
as for equal pay, it is surprising to say that the majority of the population are being paid less than the minimum wage, and minimum wage can't even support one individual. you need to be earning at least 10.75/hr to get by, that's not including clothes and other "luxuries". there are unions out there that can help out, and not very many people know about that or think that it would make a difference but it does.

I think someone would have to either (a) not live in the society and culture I do, or (b) be extremely unaware to think that there is no sexual objectification of women. It's so obvious to me. How do you sell a car, gun, or other ****-extention? Put a sexy women near it. It's ridiculous.
Not that it's all that blatant -- I think almost all of it is much more subtle, which is even more dangerous. There's this video that I want to tell everyone to watch, but I don't remember the name.
It disgusts me how women and girls are constantly encouraged to judge their self-worth by their sexuality. Gross.

How do we (everyone of the message board) feel about the sexual objectification of women? Do you think it exists? Whose fault is it? Is it beneficial to anyone? Let me sit back and see, what you think

I don't know what you think equal work is besides just that. That includes "having the same competence level, working the same amount of time, doing the same job, working for the same employer, working the same hours". The onus is on you. I already stated my case. (By the way, same time and same hours, unless you're talking about experience - which somewhat falls under 'competence' anyway - are the same thing) When I say 'same job less pay' I mean they are doing the same exact job, and getting paid less for it. Such is the state of affairs in this country. quote: Women are still not receiving equal pay for equal work, let alone equal pay for comparable work.

Im gone for a week, just a week, and all this happens...
If you believed in true equality you would not be fighting for more rights.
And for whoever said that that they want to walk down the streets wearing close to nothing and not get cat calls at them, Tell me exactly what you want. do you want (close to) every guy to get there mouth sewed shut? your just looking for yet another thing to complain about.
And as for the statistics. lets say we took the General percentage of every "male Dominated" (so to say) families income, and ever "female Dominated" (so to say) families income and compare? (which is what they did) if they did that here is the problem.
5 represents getting paid fairly 3 represents not getting paid fairly Male dominated families- 5+5+3+5+3+3+5+5+5+5+5+5+5=59 59/13=4.5 Female dominated families- 5+3+5+3+5+5=26 26/6=4.3
That way would not be a correct representation because although females had the lower number, Male's had the higher number of unsufficient households.
Its like this because, wether you like it or not, there are more male dominated families then females, its like this mostly because of the females decision. Not in all cases obviosly, But mostly.
and again the word feminism has nothing to do with the female gender. It could pertain to it, But as the world is right now. No it could not.
A feminist could not possibly hate men, that would be a chouvinist.
There is My 2 cents ~shawn
