Ya, I agree. There will always be those types of people that will hate no matter what. Look at what the Civil Rights Movement did to White Pride groups. It only made them more upset. All the while, however, they became less popular with most of the American population.

I'm sure all schools are going to have some people who are homophobic. At my school, here in Minnesota, there are lots of homosexuals, and most of them are up front about it. Sure, theres the bitc*es who dont give a rats *** about making fun of people for being gay. Some people try to get all scientific about the matter, saying that the only reason people are gay is because of they have the mind of a man or women. But whatever. It doesnt matter where you live. There will always be the total homophobic people!

Phew-saved.

I know where you are coming from CitricAcid, I was there once, still sort of am. I was never a "metro" and haven't ever been, but still, I understand and sympathize. I wrote my story of what happened a few pages back.

I realize you only have one post. Have you switched your name from something? Or are you really new?

My school is in MA and quite conservative too. Just because it's MA doesn't mean that there won't be conservatives.

Even though I live in Massachusetts there is a lot of homophobia in my school. I don't have anything against homosexuality but i do get teased constantly because people think that I am gay. The truth is i'm a metrosexual and it hurts to be called something I'm not. However my school is the only school in the area that is so conservative. I'm getting transferred to a high school in a nearby town. So...Hope this helps.

Yeah, google search might do it. Make sure they're avatars, small ones, not the larger pictures. If I were on my own computer, I'd show you a link to some pretty neat JTHM ones. You could search the web with your subject+avatars. Sometimes there're good sites, sometimes not. I find yahoo is better if you search by website.

Ya, I know. No, I didn't know how you got yours. So do I just fdo to like google image search or something? And then go the "options" (or whatever) page to put it in as my avatar? I don't know though, I still like the freedom of not being identified by a picture...

Then find one on the internet. Where'd you think I got mine? And it makes it easier to locate someone down the page.

Believe me, I know what you mean. I know I was hard-pressing you. Why should I get an avatar? And what if I don't like the ones they have available?

Eh, forgiven. The metaphor made its point and that's all I care about. Details are for losers, they hardly effect the larger picture.

(you should get an avatar)

I wasn't being dense; I was being rough. I wanted you to try and prove your point. I understand the simplicity and yet the complexity of a metaphor, but I wanted you to be able to explain it. You said it well enough in your last paragraph. Thanks for your time, I guess I did end up pushing the envelope, and so I apologize for upsetting you with my antagonism.

you must be one of the following: A. a mass of land OR B. a homosexual. But something tells me you are neither...
If you mind my saying so, you are somewhat dense. The point of a metaphor is not to be exact. It would not be a damned metaphor if it were homosexuality based. Whatever. It's common sense, Free. You can be afraid of anything no matter how big or small it is. Wait. This sounds familiar. Oh yeah, I've said it before. Read my last post, and ignore the part about metaphors, if you wish, for you don't seem to be advancing in this conversation any. I'm way too far ahead of you, and I'm not about to stop. I'm leaving the railroad tracks. You can get hit by the train.

How's that for a metaphor. Did I lose you?

Oh, and I am neither a piece of land or homosexual, but nor am I heterosexual, so I believe I can say anything I want? Homosexuals, heterosexuals, bisexuals, neutral people. Hell! When did we become so afraid in this country to not be able to be one thing if you're another? Whatever, you wouldn't get that either.

Yes, I swear, if anything does our existence in for good, it'll be ignorance and nonacceptance.

Homophobia at my school last year was horrible. And then I went to highschool, and it was just as bad...it just wasnt as obvious to who was gay and who wasnt...I had a friend at my school last year and she was a homosexual...and b4 she told me she always made fun of gay people...Prolly to see how I would react...she then told me and then after awhile told everyone else...until EVERYONE knew she was a lesbain...people stopped talking to her for it...she always told me that they were scared that they were gonna catch the "gay"...which is what that whole story was about...you cant catch the "gay", it upsets me at how ignorant some kids can be!

But the type of fear we were discussing was relatively specific, if you understand where I'm going. I'm not dense, I knew what you were getting at, yet the analogy itself lacked something. In order for it to be proper, however poetic you wish it could be, you must be one of the following: A. a mass of land OR B. a homosexual. But something tells me you are neither...

Oh well. I won't push the envelope.

Bad analogy if you ask me, DWM.
Wavemaster Says: Did it make its point?
Your question was answered. A PHOBIA is an inexplicable fear of something, no matter how great or small, how living or inatimate, or dead, how great in numbers or not. You are splitting too many hairs that you see not the point I was making. You can have an inexplicable fear of anything. Don't split hairs. Geez. (look at my avatar for the expression I wear right now)

THERE IS SOMETHING, FREE, YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND ABOUT METAPHORS. I, my friend, am a poet. I speak in poetic terms. Sometimes, the words I speak are eloquent, sometimes not. A metaphor, Free, is a poetic element. To understand that the metaphor does indeed fit, you must jump into my mind.
quote:
What he meant was that there could be alot of something yet people still hate/fear it
At least there are some not too dense to figure me out.

But I do have a question for you, and a rather personal one, so I guess I will NOISEmail you instead of posting it.

But I still didn't comprehend the analogy. I suppose it was either too complex or too simple for me.

Yogore, that would not make me hate gay people. Why would I? Just because other people might? Sheesh, I'm more intelligent and mature to know the balme should not be placed on the homosexual community, but rather the intolerant. So quite the reverse, yogore-I've made a lot of friends with open people and I sitll get a little flack for it, but I don't care as much, plus I now understand those type of people are just ignorant.
Well, that's good. I know alot of people in similar situations tend to blame gay people because they are picked on which is why I asked.

And I still believe it was a rather poor ananlogy. Comparing the land to the water on the surface of the earth is not equivalent to the number of homosexuals to the number of heterosexuals-not to mention I don't believe DWM is ocean/sea water. If he was, we wouldn't be discussing the imposing homosexuals-we'd be discussing land.
What he meant was that there could be alot of something yet people still hate/fear it.
