I used to steryotype a lot! But I really watch myself now and give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I know so many southerners that it would be too unfair for me to consider them all rednecks. Besides, I don't like to be sterotyped either. I'm from Nebraska and everyone thinks I'm a farmer. Not quite...and a lot of people think we're stupid hicks, but that's not true either...Actually, Nebraska is quite unique in a good way. If anyone is interested I can go further into it, but I don't want to bore you... But, the thing I have trouble with the most is assuming that someone who is rich is conservative (or someone who is Christian for that matter)...I don't know if you can really blame me for that though. That's just the environment and experience I've been it/had...

We have to types of rednecks living in Puerto Rico; the either really racist ones or the eerily nice ones. It's always the extremes.

When I went to Lousiana to visit my cousins, I was shocked by their manners. They referred to my parents as "sir" and "ma'am". They were just really considerate and kind. They really repsected their parents too.

Amen to that. That's why I'm going to the south for college.

Thanks QOH. I've never been to New York (I've actually never been out of the South haha) but my aunt went to New York for a couple weeks and she said the pollution is so bad. I couldnt imagine having so much crap in the air... I love our southern hospitality. People are really friendly - like I get into a conversation with someone I dont know just about everytime I go shopping. And people dont really use 4-way stops- drivers just wave atch ya and let you go whether its your turn or not... wow...I love my south. =)

quote: I probably stereotype southerners as being rednecks - because frankly, most of them are. And I have the right to say that because I live in the south (hickville, USA) and we are all pretty much rednecks....
I like the South... it's so much prettier and nicer than the North. I mean, in NY (Where I live!!) we're friggin mean. If you try to cross the street at a yellow light, the cars speed up to try and hit you! In Conn. people hate New Yorkers (I know first hand) I went there once with my friend and there was a circle of girls talking about the horses their rich fathers bought them. I remember one girl actually said this: "What are your horses like- oh wait. I'm so sorry I forgot, you don't have horses in New York do you?" Yes we do have horses but it was mean. In the South everyone's so nice. In Florida they let pedestrians cross the street, in North Carolina everyone offers to show you how to get somewhere, in South Carolina they say hi to everyone and in Georgia everyone is just really nice.

Most of my friends are rich. Well, no, maybe not RICH, but definately top 8% of the Nation. Five of them are easily in the top 5% if not higher. Might be mroe than five too... And then I've got my friends who are near dirt-poor. Funny how that is.

good question.... I probably stereotype southerners as being rednecks - because frankly, most of them are. And I have the right to say that because I live in the south (hickville, USA) and we are all pretty much rednecks.... I personally find it a complement when people call me a redneck because of what a "redneck" truly is and where it came from. (If you want to know just ask and I'll explain). But I guess I probably stereotype rich people as being stuck up preps, because all the rich people I know are stuck up, so its alright.

The South begins at Virginia (MY HOME STATE! Too bad it's so damn conservative) and then Maryland is North. So, techincally, I'm a southerner. Interesting...but then again, it's not like I'm deep South.

At what point does the south start and north begin? Also, I am called the jewish redneck since I live in NY, am Jewish, and a NASCAR fan...I dont care

I went to this camp with my friend when I was 13 and the counselor would make fun of West Virginia all the time. It was kinda mean but funny as hell. She said her name was 'Bobby Joe' because two guys make a girl according to her.

Yea, I hate stereotyping. I occasionally do, especially rich people as Republicans, though I know that's not all true. I lived in the south for six years and now live in WV and I am neither a redneck or an inbred hick.

I wouldn't admit to it. I'd be so ashamed that I'm stereotypical at all. "Yeah, I stereotype blah blah blah, I know it, but, hey, it doesn't matter".
