What makes a different sexual orientation so bad? Is it because it isn't the norm? Because, truthfully, I thought that's what the US was based on:diversity. The forefathers of this country wanted to get away from religious persecution, wanted to live their own lives. They drew up the constitution, the bill of rights. But, it still took years to abolish slavery. It took years after that to actually give equal rights and it took generations before they were actually enforced. Is it that this country was only based on equal rights for some and not all? It just seems like every time we take a step forward in equality, something sets us back ten steps, like we just always, as a society, need someone to hate, someone to decide isn't worth it to recieve all the benefits of living in our country. And now it seems we are just hating so many people: Muslims, Gays, Transgenders. For a country based on equality, we suck at it. I really wonder how long it will take before we don't have someone to hate. My friend says that it'll never happen and i'm starting to agree with him.

Hmmm...Sometimes I feel that way too. I mean, people are people, and we should respect the little things that make us different and unique, not make excuses to not do so. And with a Nation pretty much founded on that concept, it's hard to believe it still happens. But it does, and it always will. I wish that there'd be an end to hate against homosexuals, heck, anyone really. Alas, people can be really cruel for stupid reasons.

Yeah I feel like the tide is slowly turning towards a more accepting society of gays and lesbians, of course there will ALWAYS be some folks who mask their hatred with various buzz terms, but progress is being made all over (Vermont is just the beginning IMO)

lol, we say we're for "equality" but we're really an egalitarian society. Every wave of immigrants in American history was discriminated against, as were every non-white at some point in time. We like to discriminate until they get rich, then we just see them as money. ^.^ ooh, and Vermont is the first state to pass gay marriage through legislation. yay for gays!
