Okay, Last weekend was the very first Summit that has EVER been invited by AASG. Kodiak AASG's Committee has put in a lot of time and energy to put this together, and we wanted to make a different for students with disabilities.

We had a lot of meetings and got a lot in accomplish. I've learned and educated others about the different things that is going on, and how we can truely make a difference someday (between 1 to 5 years). We got soo much to talk about and soo many things that need to be addressed to others.

Some of the things that we discussed was that kids in Rural areas are having a difficulty time in schools. We've been talking about how we uses the word "retard" and "stupid" and how those words are affensive to students with disablities.
We all say those words some time in our lives, it's somthing that we don't think about very much. The idea that we had was to try to prevent from saying those two words.

Please realized that students with disabitlites are people too, and in reality, they are just like anyone else. There should be no diversity in our world.

Peace

I don't want to sound like hitler, for he was the meanest person in history...maybe I didn't state it correctly, when I was first writting it up, I was trying to think of what was actually said at the conference, and there was something with diversity.

Yes, there should be diversity, but people should be hating, teasing, mocking etc. the differences that we were granted by.

There's many people who can't stand up for themselves and that's what we wants to do.

This is true. I know that for a fact. Though many times they are different which is fine with me, there's this one kid at my school who's skin is all black and white, he's cool, but he gets made fun of.
He gets made fun of and it's sad, but I can't be around all the time to defend him and all. But I will do my part to treat him and others like him as a person and a friend. These kinds of people really enjoy contact with people not like themselves, they want to be like everyone else. This doesn't mean we don't need diversity it just means they like to be around us.
I myself am 'disabled', but I don't think that term is correct really. Personally, I can do anything anyone else does just not as good. Oh...almost forgot! I have cerebral palsy, it's mild so it isn't that bad, but it could've been worse. I just have a gimp walk and some minor problems with my coordination. I'm having surgery this summer to make things better, but it'll be tough. Anyway I just wanted to contribute and just for the record diversity is a good thing.

Peace,
Silverstreak

P.S. I get treated good, and if anyone makes fun of me someone else is always there to correct them, but I have a lot of good friends Big Grin

Have a great Day!

What do you think should change for student with disabilities? How do you think we could overcome the unappropiate actions that are going about for students with disabilities?

I get what you're saying I suppose, though I don't see how it pertains to diversity, nor do I necessarily agree with it.

Hi everyone,

Please feel free to say wha you are thinking, this is something that I'm interesting in knowing what you are thinking about, so that I can go to my committee and tell them what we may need to change or do for the goodness of our future generation and our lives.

Yes outspokenme, it would be boren without diversity. Guess what I'm trying to say is that we are taking each other for granted, and are not seeing the truth of all truth about reality and the fact that we all are different.

I know that many people doesn't understand student with disabilities, and so they tend to either make fun or just ignore them. In reality, there is two worlds in one school, and that's just knowing that there are students with disabilities and students without disabilities.

I couldn't disagree more. Perhaps you don't realize how dangerous no diversity would be. People should be more accepting of diversity, yes, (so that hurtful names, words and things aren't brought against others).

But no diversity? Not only is it impossible, it'd not be very much fun. There's at least one thing about each person that makes them different, that creates the diversity. Without that, we'd all be a nothing. Diversity is what shaped this world, without it, we're lost.
