I don't know what word means hatred of men, dare share? Wink Of course then again I didn't know there was a word meaning hatred of women so hmmm...Well yes, hate crimes are on the rise and that includes rape. Every 6 minutes a woman is raped and 1 out of every 2 women will be raped or sexually assaulted during her lifetime, also a rapist usually rapes 16 women before he's caught. So yeah, the violence from the media is accumulative and is bringing it's toll on society. Plus u know when Amish come out of their lifestyle and into ours, a rising number are now returning to theirs, what is that saying about what we're becoming.
But there is a double standard (is that what u call it?) I've thought of cenarios such as, if I had a boyfriend and hit him b/c he did something (not hard but as a joke kind of). But what if he hit me? What would that be viewed as. It's hypocritical and we live in a funky time now where who knows what. Everything is just so uncertain, rights are wanted and deserved in many places. It's hard to become a better world. I dunno. Am I making sense? sorry Smile SMILE BRIGHTLY Smile

As being a 13 year old and trying to be a role model for my sister, I do agree. I'am a victom of rap music and i do watch MTV. But there is somthing that bothers me. Nowa days women have been referd to many things such as " Hoe, ****,B****" and the list goes on. No offense to anyone, but for all those people who talk of women like that, but at the sametime want respect. How are they planning on getting respect whentheir dissing people they could be gettng respect from.Us as women are people to, we are not satisfaction of a one night stand so why should we be talked to/about and treated as if we were. Gemme your feedback! Smile

The media portrays sex as being this great thing that no one can live without. They don't however show how you can get Hiv, My mom got it from my dad in 1989. I was born about 9 months after she found out. This was her decision to have sex without seeing if he was sick first but then again, If there was more awareness about this problem she might not have to deal with this sicknss for the rest of her life. I think that we should show all the facts if we're going to make it out to be such a great thing.

Want to know something that isn't fair, I guarantee most you don't know the word for hatred of men. That’s because unlike the word misogyny, which is taught left and right, misandry, hatred of men, is hardly taught at all. Why do you think that is? I mean god forbid a man suggest that there are women who treat men unfairly or that there are women who hate men, because if a man says that he is automatically labeled a misogynist.
For my senior paper, I looked at Sexism as a whole. I did a poll on 1000 people consisting of people from age 13-60 and asked if the knew the word that meant hatred of men; only 1 knew what the word was.

I agree with redjill55. I mean, look. I turn on the tv. I see, on reality shows, women argueing with men but the men get their way, women who do nothing but try to please men, and sex images. It's on every channel! I mean, even cartoons. Ever notice how Granny always assumes that Tweety is being preyed on, or the little bird is alone and scared, when it's really teasing and beating up the cats? And how about all that; how many women who are honestly overweight on it? We never here about woman-run companies do well or get cheated; we hear about them when they cheat people. But no one ever realises it! My mom once saw a commercial with half-naked men. The company got so many complaints the commercial was only in use for 2 days. How many commercials of women do we see like that daily? The U.S. needs a wake-up call.

WHY are you all complaining about having guys step over girls and treat them like crap and stuff when HELLO you are a FREAKING GIRL and that means that instead of just writing that girls should stand up for themselves why dont you just do it??????????

you dont need to complain about things completely within your control!

and as for guys only liking skinny girls and stuff...i think that is only highschool guys who are trying to compete against eachother

in real life i highly doubt guys are actually like that (least not the one's i'll date cause im not gonna deal with a superficial jerk) but none of us on here would actually know that cause we're all still in highschool...

I think everyone has the right to express themselves by the way they dress. What I do have a problem with is when the media posts pictures of nearly starved models and look alike Britney Spears bimbos on everyother page of a magazine. There are to many girls that look at these photographs and believe that is the only way to look. when in reality those pictures are totaly fake.

I think that women should not be held to a double standard and that if ricky martin can take his shirt off and make sexually suggestive moves then so can women

I think that if men can have rap videos with strippers grinding against them, then christina aguilera can make a video like "dirty" and not have to fight for them to show it before 10 PM ( this DID happen)

BUT, though i respect Christina Aguilera's right to dress the way she does, i DO NOT think that that is the way for women to gain the rights they deserve. If women keep dressing like little prostitutes then how can they expect society to not treat them like little prostitutes? If women keep singing songs about sex instead of intelligient subjects, then how can they expect society to think that they are smart?

I really do think that women are portrayed to be 'dummies' in the media, but I do think that it is getting better. Nothing changes quickly especially in society today. However, we have to remember that we bring stereotypes on ourselves sometimes. We do act a certain way in certain situations. We do fight and argue over petty things and at times are overly obsessive of our hair. Does that makes us bad people or superficial? No. Not really. It makes us human. As for celebrities, they do what sells. Just because they dress in provacative clothing doesn't mean that is who they are. If we each other based on clothing, doesn't that mean that we are as supericial, petty, and sometimes as ditzy as proclaimed?

I think the way media displays women is awful! So many young women have image issues because of what they see on TV, and most of the women that feel this way aren't even "fat" It's just when anorexic models are shoved in our faces, any women who isn't a size 2 is made to feel ugly! I'm sure many of you know this, but models are airbrushed, none of them look that good in person. There's nothing wrong with not looking like a model, it's what's in the heart that counts, and if enough of us feel this way perhaps we change change the way that media views women.

Why is it that women are always judged by how they look? Why is it that skinny big breasted women are "hot" and attractive? Is our generation crazy? No one is perfect. Why do guys act like that?
It only takes one generation to change it all. If just one generation of girls would stand up for their rights and not let guys step all over them every thing would change. It only takes one generation to change it. So change it...

A lot of people who go on this site are much smarter than the general population. I'm glad that you didn't say "Help, I'm so fat", like I thought you would. Wink

I also don't try to look like women portrayed in the media, but I know it is a huge problem. Many peopple are not mature enough to understand that these people are not happy, they are sick. anyone who is 5'9 and 100 pounds is sick. Models often do drugs too. They are quite ad people. I hope none of you ever model or listen to the media's propaganda. I mean, who looks like that? I wouldn't even want to, because then how do you know if someone likes you for you or your body? And I am a very happy erson, and I'm not skinny. Which shows that being skinny does not make you a better person. It really doesn't. Many people who diet are not stable at all, do not have stable relationships. You should be judged accoding to your personality and brains, not beauty. Many of my friends diet, and at lunch time the subject of "I'm so fat" comes up at least once. People find it very annoying when you only care about your weight. What is truly attractive? To be confident, not complain much, and be a good person. People really admire that in a person. If you are on a diet now, and it's not because a doctor put you on one because you are obese? Go right now to the kitchen. Good! Now, take out a few cookies or a brownie. Eat it. And don't feel guilty. It's not healthy to always eat cookies and browinies, but if you do sometimes, it's fine. Enjoy life. Being skinny does not make you are happier person. Because you will never be satisfied.

though i'm a guy, i don't think that women should be descriminated. nobody should be. it isn't right, in my opinion, that women are looked at as sex objects. i try my hardest to ignore the images placed before us in the media. it takes away from my faithful attitude toward god when i look at women. though i find most of the women in the media attractive, like most other men, i put it out of sight, thus out of mind. ladies, don't let the media influence you on what you want to look like. people these days are too obsessed with looks. if you try to look good all of the time, you're being vain... and i know it's subconscious for most of us to want to look good. also, if you look at people and think them lower than yourself because they are not good looking, then you are a pompous, arrogant, squamous individual. don't let your self image be determined by some airbrushed picture on the cover of a magazine. that's not what image is about... it comes from the inside. i wish i could make men respect women more, but i think we all know that it's just going to be a competition that never ends. it most likely began when women started becoming active in government. men saw it as a threat so they retaliated through more pointless derogatory attitudes and statements. the product of that is woman-bashing through media. it's very sad and discouraging, but i encourage you to fight it as much as you can... if we all ignore it, it may just go away eventually. i know it sounds strange to fight by ignoring, but if you think about it, it's feasible. don't go to the movies to watch the films and they will not make as much money. don't buy the magazines or books that promote it, and they will lose funding as well. don't fuel the hatred of those who descriminate and they will lose anger to some extent. it won't ever go away, but we can dull it down a little bit if we try to.
god bless,

Less than 2% of the female population has the genetic make up to look like the stereotypical super model.

I'll have to agree, cuz while ur home alone what are u mostly doing? watching t.v, right? well anyway I believe that t.v is now becoming the "other parent" and this isn't all that good, because t.v is starting to become over-rated: their are girls half naked (if that!), and boys with their bling and cromed out cars, they are always singing about stupid stuff like shooting somebody in the head or selling/using drugs. I understand that t.v is good in some points (u know with the educational programs and stuff) but now parents are getting a little used to sending their kids in front of the t.v so the kids can learn things, instead of doing that they can sit down with their kids and teach them. parents now-a-day also believe that teachers are responible for the teaching of their kids, and fell that whatever is going on at school shouldn't be brought back home.
thatnx for letting me voice my oppinion

I've found the best way for dealing with this issue.

Turn off my TV. In fact, now, I dont' even have one. I disagreed with so much of the stuff on it, that I decided to sell it. The only show I have watched in ages is The Simpsons, because it is an animated cartoon. It upsets me greatly to see young girls in the shopping centres dressed like whores, but although I certainly feel like slapping the mothers for dressing them that way, I just ignore it.

This may be just a passive stand, but as stated in this board, it is an issue over which there is much debate. I do not buy certain products because of their advertising, I refuse to enter certain stores because of the clothing they sell, and I have gone so far as to get off a few buses because of the advertisements inside them. I made sure that I took the bus number, and wrote to the transport company informing them what I did and why.

It outrages me that women are sexualised so much, to the point where it is considered 'cute' to dress an 8 year old in a string bikini. With any luck, others will follow my stand and eventually, a rather buxom woman wearing an incredibly small bikini lying on the beach looking at the camera suggestively will be found only in Playboy rather then advertising shoes.

Wink That's my take on the subject Wink
