Well, although I do think that women should be free to be themselves, I have a real problem with this media image that all women have to be easy, stupid, one dimentional, and only care about pleasing men. That's really what most of the highly sexed media images are all about: pleasing men. Not so much about expressing their true nature, just pleasing men! I think it's a new form of repression; women are taught that they have to please men, to be perfect: have the perfect body, look hot all the time, be hypersexual and yet not trashy... it can be so confusing!!
I try not to talk too much trash about other girls and women who are more promiscious than me; usually I do talk trash about certain celebrities, though. (Ahem, Britney!!) I think we shouldn't "stick tog ether" JUST BECAUSE we're women... men talk trash about each other too (maybe not as harshly, though).
I think that there need to be more female characters on TV and in movies that we can relate to; they might be very sexual, or they might not, but they can be seen as REAL PEOPLE, not these one-dimentional things that are just there for eye candy! There should also be not just attractive actresses in roles, but also more "plain" ones as well. (hey, there are PLENTY of outright unattractive male characters in the media!!) I can tell the difference between a "objectified" female character in a movie and a realistic one... and there are too many objectified women! Male screenwriters just aren't trying hard enough, I guess... );P

its so true that females are portrayed as easy "hoes" and such things but we don't have to necessaraly have to bring on the women's rights. the real deal is that what started this was girlsd letting themselves be easy by the opposite sex. the crude boys. red face they are not all like dogs but most are. either way, these girls are the ones to blame for. not the guys, they are just the catalysts in life. for example, did you guys like that movie, "american pie", well i bet you guys did. that really gave girls a bad name. all this raunchy girls are big hoochie mammas. now, for the girlz that hate this issue just have to prove how real we are and that we are not easy. ladies believe in themselves, they don't care what people think only what we feel counts, we don't have to dress to impress why??? cuzz we know that we already are beautiful no matter what! y'all know that y'all look good when boys holla at you when youre in your scrubs. we say what we want and what we feel. we are positive, not negative. the ral ladies real women know what i'm talking about.the point is, there is a difference between hoochies and real ladies. hoochies are easy and let everyone know what they do which is real stupid and real ladies know how to play the real game. LIFE wink we are smart and are responsible for what we do. it has nothing to do with the way we dress, its the matter of how we talk and act and if whether we are responsible of our own acts. any objections? any questions? big grin

Wow, you guys! What's with all the hatred?! Now, I have to say, I agree with a lot of your opinions, but honestly, this is what the womens' rights movement was all about. The freedom for women to say what they want to say, do what they want to do, and, of course, wear what they want to wear. Many have taken things a little far, but when it comes down to it, they're using what their ancestors fought to give them, not regressing back into repression. ANd how can we tell them to close their mouths and cover up. This is what they are now free to do. This does mean that some men are going to think of them only as sexual objects, but sex sells, whether we like it or not. The only thing we can do is make sure that each one of us can prove we're not like the pop stars. Show yourself as a women with passion, inner beauty, and integrity. Prove that women are definitely more than meet the eye.

well until we see a women president i dont think that women are going to be treated any different...we are just going to have to deal with all other these people saying stuff about us i mean who dosent get called a **** or a hoe..i just think that people are useing the words in the wrong way...it all depens on YOUR deffanison of the word..I mena **** and hoe and ***** and stuff really shouldnt mean anything. And as for movies and rap and all the other things that make women look like sex-toys are all the same thing and i do disagree with what they are showing and stuff but who is going to stop it? no one because men love it and men run the world! Sorry to say but its true and we cant do any thing about it unless some one stands up to it..!! eek roll eyes

frown It is disgusting how men treat girls like toys. They use them and throw them away when they are done. What can we do about it though. As a girl,I know that sexism is everywhere, especially in the south, where I live.I am constantly being told to "stay in my place". My grandfather doesn't even think that women should have jobs!! Men will never change. They will always be selfish pigs.I hate them.I realize that saying that dooms me to a life alone, but I HATE THEM!!

I hate it now adays when people (some women also) say it's a mans world. Women have as much a right as any one to rise up. dicrimanatoin (I can't spell sorry) is about as bad today as it was in the 20's, just in different forms. I hate when I see men looking down on women. When you go to hospitals u see women with bruises from abuse. We are still under attack from men. Men think all there doing is proving their man hood. That is some crap! If men went through what we have for, well since basically the beginning of time, (Excep for teh egyptain era) mad Don't worry gurls we can still fight wink null

well all i have to say is that many guys look at women as hoes, females, tramps. These guys aren't men! I personal think they believe if one girl is like it then all of them are like that! It's wrong and we as women deserve more respect than that. The hoochies need to stop trying so hard to get attention and cover up. Leave the hooker clothes in the trash. roll eyes

eek just today, i saw the most....extremely disturbing ad i'v ever seen so far!! i'm not sure if any of you hav seen it, but i was extremely...well...shocked!! i couldn't stand looking at it for long enough to see what it was for, but it had a picture of britney spears *cringe* and a little girl, standing with a black background. but that wasn't it. for once, britney's outfit seemed almost human, just almost. it was the little girl's outfit that made my head whirl!!! she was dressed in such a skimpy outfit that i can't believe her mom even let her do the shoot!!!! what's our world coming to? i see little 2 piece bikini swimsuits for toddlers, and even though some might say it's cute, i for one think it's revolting. because of media, we've all come to think that stuff like this is ok. it's not!! if models want to sell their bodies like that and corrupt peoples minds by filling them with lustful thoughts, its wrong, but they can do what they want if they don't hav any self respect.. but if people can make little children dress up like that? they've just crossed the line! although i agree that women shouldn't b thought of for only *hmm* those purposes, but they all they're telling the world is that they have no self respect. but that's they're problem. let's keep them from giving US a bad rep too!!

anything about it.Women are just as important to this country as men are.Our economy today is just as much women as it is men.

I'm very appalled at how women are treated there days! People just seem to not respect them! You're absolutely right about the comedy shows! They totaly disciminate women with showing them in tiny shirts and revieling clothes, and did you notice most of them act like brainless-I-only-am-here-for-sex loosers? Where are the TV shows showing how strong and smart we are? And commercials don't really help! (Neither does Brittany Spears) I just wish that some people would wise up! big grin

hey-
I don't know think it's moving us back in the women's rights movement, but I find all those songs and movies VERY offensive, low class, and crude. look at, for example, the thong song. I HATE that song mad and find it unbeleivably obnoxious. and some people call that entertainment!

I don't think we're moving backwards in the woman's movement as much as we're surpassing freedom of expression. Those people use the 1st Amendment to disrespect women (and they make money doing it). Hopefully someday there won't such ignorant people in the world.
