I LOVE what is going on here. Thanks to those who are making it possible.

How do we get started talking and doing something about violence against women? I was surprised to not to see it come up under violence or tolerance.

The thing here is that there's always a bunch of homeless junkies who are always offering me weed (and, sometimes, heroin). But there's this woman...God I don't know how to explain it. I go to a Quickie mart across the street, around which is where some junkies hang out, and there's this woman who stands-out because she's trying not to. She never enters the store if there's anyone inside and any kind words make her run away. Her face is really puffed-up, I don't know if it's drugs or being beaten, and it's really dirty.

She comes-in the store when it's empty, hides behind a mass of dirty hair, hands over the money without waiting for change and leaves. It's heartbreaking 'cause it's so obvious the junkies beat her up and she doesn't dare say anything. And she's so miserable all the time, I almost always catch her crying at some corner at the middle of the night. One time, at 2 in the afternoon, I caught her sleeping on a plastic chair at the laundery-place.

I just don't know what to do. I've told police about it, they tell me to go to this centre and report it. And I can't, for some reason I don't want to be involved in even more emotional turmoil. And I can't prove my identity just yet (some stupid government problems), so I can't have her go to a centre or rehab, if she wants to go at all.

It's so heartbreaking. She always walks-around with these bags, her face is so broken and I've never seen a more miserable, more defeated person in my life.

No clue what to do, damn it.

The abuse that women put up with is so upsetting. The world is no longer a man's world, and woman does not need to be dominated by a man. Physical abuse and mental abuse are two very damaging things. It is time that women stand up for themselves, and realize that they do not need to be defined by a man. Getting out and getting away from the abuse is the best thing. Turn him in, and get justice.

I didn't even know about violence against women until I read an artical in a magazine. I knew that in some countries women were looked down on and treated as inferior and enslaved. However, I didn't know about the extensive abuse, such as bride burning and female circumcision. I was completely outraged to learn how women are treated in some countries and I'd like to find a way to help.

Posting a topic just like this in the appropriate board is how you can get started. Welcome to YN patonhj; we're glad you enjoy it here.

In a situation where a moral decision must be made, we should always choose truth, in the expansion and enrichment of knowledge, in ourselves and others, and at all levels of our being.

The mods will soon move this to the right place I'm sure.

I really don't know what to say on the subject, except that its wrong, and unfortunate that so many women have to deal with it.

J'irai bien.
