In addition of my last post:
There is a censorship battle going on in a town near my town. The lady's kids don't even go to the high school, and she's wanting to ban books there. She's made a huge deal over all of it. I went to the public library the day after the school board meeting, and all but 4 or 5 of the 53 titles in question were all checked out.

Suck that Laurie Taylor.

F-451 did not scare me near as much as 1984.

I shudder every time I walk past someone wearing blue overalls.

Basically any negitive utopia book deals with what happens if totalitarianism goes to far with the control. All censorship happenes because people want control.

My advice:
If you don't like censorship, go to http://www.ncac.org and become a member of the national coalition against censorship.

censorship is like a slap in the face, and it will only shut you up for so long.

The few should not be allowed to govern many. Just because a small group of people think something is wrong, it doesn't give them the right to make people's decisions for them! A person and/or his/her legal guardians should have the rights to decide what goes into their minds. How else is everyone/thing going to get equal representation in the media and education? I reserve the right to allow or not allow myself to read and/or learn about homo-/bisexuals, witches, magick, liberal points of view, and anything else that may cross my path. If everyone's decisions are made for them, how can they ever learn to make the right decisions themselves once placed in such a position. If someone or some people think that they are close enough to being God that they can tell me what to do, how to do it, and when to do it, they've got another thing coming. I would rather die standing up for my freedom to make my own educated decisions than live bowing before some false idol who would try to censor everything in my life.

I wan't meaning to suggest that not editing people would lead to a anarchly. I was simply trying to suggest that we need rules or things get out of control.

The first amendment protects all speech. It does not say "only appropriate speech." And do you truly think that if we allow cuss words, we will somehow end up with anarchy?

The First Amendment dose not protect anybodies right to use profanity. Remeber the depression? Some regulations are good or you end up with a system that is out of control that is why we have a Mixed Economy because it combines the best of both commend and free market. This also why American is the best because we use our brain. Well some of us! Smile

The only cenorship that should be allowed is what the parents choose what is right or wrong for their child, Otherwise, whoever censored the book or movie or music, is telling others what they want children to learn. They are making kids live protected lives, or how they would want their children to live their lives, not letting the parents have a say.

I am very upset with the whole censorship of the mom and stepmom senerio. I was raised with very much respect to differences. Even though I am straight I was brought up with my aunt being a lesbian and I have alot of friends who are gay and lesbian. I see nothing wrong with that type of sexual orintation. They are people two. Lets start treating gays and lesbians like people instead of gross aliens. Gays and lesbians diserve to be treated with respect as well. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Obey the golden rule. Thank You, Marissa

Yeah, F-451 really was an eye-opener to me as well. Censorship really shouldn't be government controlled.
It probably wasn't the FCC but some other crazy conservative group that said that Sponge Bob and other harmless children's programs promoted homosexuality. There was something on the news on Friday. Also there is post about it in "In the News".

Oh, wait according to the FCC, Sponge Bob promotes homosexuality, so never mind.

What?! Enlighten me as to their reasoning.

clpo13's opinion: Censorship is bad. Read Fahrenheit 451. 'Nuff said.

Honestly, the FCC makes me sick. It is the parents' responsiblity to monitor their childrens' exposure to television and the Internet. If the FCC had it their way there would be shows left on television except Sponge Bob. Oh, wait according to the FCC, Sponge Bob promotes homosexuality, so never mind.

i think that censorship is wrong. except in music videos and things that are shown on tv that anyone could see. but censorship only prevents things from being written. they are not going to successfully hide things from us. it wont work especially if we stand up against it

I've decided to revive this board... so- what do you think about censorship? Discuss!

Bushism of the day:
"The folks who conducted to act on our country on September 11th made a big mistake. They underestimated America. They underestimated our resolve, our determination, our love for freedom. They misunderestimated the fact that we love a neighbor in need. They misunderestimated the compassion of our country. I think they misunderestimated the will and determination of the Commander-in-Chief, too." —George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., Sept. 26, 2001
