the isms are NEVER going to end. the world is just too different. it may not end, but you can help. talking about it and working it out is great. the more it is talked out, the better things get. but there will never be a perfect world.

I try to be optimistic, but let's be honest: racism, bigotry and sexism still surround us. Indeed, I agree with many of you. Girls are never considered strong, and are considered different or abnormal when they can lift alot of weight. Unfortunately, isms are and will be a terrible problem in this world. In this world today there is discriminaton because of skin color, religion, or country of origin. We are advancing, but so slowly it is as if we are standing still. Stereotypes also hold us back, the stereotypes that a certain race will steal your car, or mob you, etc. If we can overcome stereotypes we will have taken a giant leap. That, though, is a giant IF.........

unfortunatly the age of isms doesnt look over to me and i dont think it will end soon. there will always be some people who wont accept others the way they are just because they are different. and part of that is becaused we were raised in a society that has prejudice and racism. if a child is raised to believe that a certain group of people is "bad" because they look different or believe different things, it could be very hard to overcome that. i hope that i will live to see the day when everybody feels accepted and comfortable with who they are, but sadly i dont think i will.

what the f*** is wrong with this sick world we live in?i would just like to know how someone can actually work up enouh guts to take a gun and shoot someone!who ever gave you the thought that, that is ok, is wrong.why do people waste their time worring about what color your skin is, or for that matter what your beliefs are,if u are gay or straight, boy or girl, what clothes u wear,or what u look like on the outside. people who worry about things like that, are obviously blind to the most beautiful thing in the world!
-diversity- i get along with everyone and i wake up a better person everyday becuase of it.when will people do as john lennon askes, and just give peace a chance.

At the moment the average male is more muscular than the average female. However, some studies conclude that if men and women had the exact same muscle development as children and developed their strength in the exact same way as they grew older, they would have very close to equal strength for their body weight. Or something like that. Check out The Frailty Myth by Colette Downing.

I think we all need to face facts here, I know plenty of girls who if the teacher had asked them to carry a heavy box would have said, "I can't they're too heavy for me." because they don't try. It is fact that men in general are more muscular then the average woman. ex. My mom can't carry a 50 pound bag of salt, but my dad can. Now that isn't any reason for discrimination, and most of my teachers ask is their anyone who can help me carry heavy boxes, rather then is their any guys. I don't believe that any discrimination is going away any time soon, but can't we all at least TRY to get along. That doesn't mean agreeing with everyone, just lisening to what people have to say, this includes, parents, teachers, younger and older siblings, people of different race, ethnicicy, religious backgrounds, the opposite sex, and anyone else. If we don't listen we'll never learn, and learning is the only thing that seperates us from being one big community. smile

I also think there will always be isms. but i think I have it harder than most of you. i am a 12 blonde female and i have health problems. You guys have been talking about racism and sexism and all that but what about those of who have health problems. So not only to I have to hear blonde jokes, not listened to becuase im 12, and thought of as weak because im a girl. i also have to put up with my health probs. I have scoliosis (only little but i did have to wear a back brace) a heart prob, and the most noticable my left arm is curved short and has only 4 fingers. so when people see me (espescially when i'm acting weird w/ my friends0 people think i must be retarded. and I am not retarded. i got straight A's on my report card 9ecxept for band I **** at band) and was in scholastic bowl. And people look at me weird. Most of the times it's just a kid wondering what happened to my arm. but I actually scare little kids from my arm like im gonna hurt em. and parents don't help. once i was wearing a tank top .people could see my arm w/ all my scars. then a little girl came up to me and asked me what happened when her mom ran over to her and pulled her away. i could hear the mom saying "don't go near people like that". i guess I looked like I would hurt her or something so no i don't think isms and predjudeces will ever go away.

There always has been, and there will always be the "isms" in the world. No matter what people say or do to try to stop it, won't really stop it. Yes i agree that it has slightly decreased, i don't think that andy role a person, any race, religion, etc... will stop it! God made the world so that there would be challenges, challenges we would have to deal with or try to solve. Depending on what we do, and how we work withthese challenges is the key to all success. do what you can, make your mark, show and tell others how you feel, but the "isms" will never truly end.

Racism, sexism, job descrimination, etc., will ALWAYS overrule people, unless generationes like us fix that. Activists say all the time that it "doesn't matter what you look like on the outside; it's on the inside that counts." And people blow that off, but... **** straight that's true. Black, white, brown, green, blue, red, yellow, that shouldn't base your perspective on them. Or male/female. That's been going on for century's. Who knows if it will ever stop. But who the hell made the rule that one sex were better rulers, leaders, or the better persons? It's hell to think of what the world would be like now if we were still living in a period of time where women weren't allowed to vote, or go places. Or when black people were forcedto sit at the back of a bus. What the hell is that?! But we need to cut the bull**** and life our OWN lives, and not worry about what others think of us, or what we think about other people. No one is perfect, and for all those people who think differently and think that they are all something in this world- forget about it. There's a fine line of equality- so get the **** facts and make that line more visible and accepting!

I think I can speak for every teenager in the world when i say that we are affected everyday by an ism. As a teenage in today's society we are encouraged to break these barriers but pushed down when we actually put out heart and soul into stopping racism or sexism. I hope that someday we can live in a world where everyone feels, and is accepted as an equal. I can't say that it will ever happen, but hey, keep hope alive.

Isms and prejudice will never be gone until people stop seeing all the differences that are between us. For ex. "isms won't end until there is a black or female president" - I think that instead of looking for leaders with qualities on the outside we should look more for intelligience and strength. People need to just stop and look at people as people, (does that make sense?). Well, I think that when we stop and really think about it we'll see that we're all just people and have more things in common than different. Only when we realize that we're all of ONE race, (human), then the isms will be over. wink

I totally agree with angelkat! I too am a 15 year old girl and every time my teacher wanted to have something done SHE would say, "I need a couple of strong guys to carry these boxes for me." It makes me so mad. Also, yesterday my friends and I went into a candle store to buy a present for our boss and the manager working behind the desk had an employee follow us around the store. The nerve of some people! That's why I laugh when someone says we are close to "ending the isms" mad frown
