I grow up knowing that marriage is between a man and woman it should stay that way, as a lesbian I feel passionate about this I rather have a long relationship with my girlfriend than tamper with marriage institution.
I am having a hard time understanding why this is even an issue... How can any group of people claim the "protectors" of marriage? People get married on game shows these days. Where was the up roar then?
Now unless I am misunderstanding, and gay marriage is everyone forced to marry gay... then of course I can see a problem...
And there is no one religion that can claim the founders of marriage... That is to say, the Christians are not demanding that Muslims call their holy union, "Life Partnership". Or the Jews demanding that Atheist couples be banned by the constitution. So by that reasoning, which group would be so hypocritical to say, "Gay's can't marry!"
Religion itself has no copyright to the word, "Marriage". If it is really that big of an issue for them, why cling to a word? Instead of causing struggle, just change what you do is called. how about, "Blessed union, acknowledge and sanctified by the one (or what have you) true God(dess)(es), Whoever."
"Come now, and let us reason together!" Says the Lord... -Isaiah 1:18
There are plenty of Pastor/Priest/whatever that would be willing to marry gay couples.
If a Pastor/Priest/whatever doesn't want to marry a gay couple, making gay marriage legal does not force them to do it. Heck, there are still some churches that won't preform marriages for interracial couples.
As I have said a million and two times, not all religions have a problem with it.
Originally posted by bren32: well first of all, the question was "should homosexuals LEGALLY marry?" and that legally part shouldnt have anything to do with religion. so saying that "god doesnt want homosexuals to marry" isnt a good arguement, because its about our government, and god doesnt control our government.
Well the religious arguement is valid if a homosexual wished to get married following in the footsteps of the way the average marriage is performed, which is before the eyes of God, and considering God is a figure joint with the bible and the bible scriptures are homophobic, then homosexuals shouldnt be allowed to marry in a church. Whether or not they can marry aside to it being before the eyes of God, should be to do with the government. But if the government are followed by the majority vote and the majority vote is religious.
Why can't a gay couple just be happy with a life time partnership, if marriage is seemingly orriginated from religion you can't twist and turn around a belief of that.

Well I think that God didn't make us,I don't think God exists, and if she does actually exist, I don't give a FUCK about what she thinks. If God is such a bitch to not want gay people to be able to marry then she's full of shit and I don't care about what she thinks.
Now seriously, how do you know what God wants?Has she personally called you up and told you? I think God doesn't give a shit. We are NOT that important, people are NOT that important. Get it in your head.
Oh and niniy, if you're saying that they shouldn't be able to marry then it's not "that's my opinion" because you are imposing you're beliefs on them. I don't know how to explain it. If you don't want to marry a girl because you think it's wrong that's fine, but when you start saying other people shouldn't be able to marry someone of the same sex for whatever reason then it's not "let them do whatever they want".

well i am a christian and i think that they should not be able to marry and that god made us so we would marry the opposite sex.....but thats only what i think what ever that person belives in is there choice peace out
I grew up learning that marriage was just between a man and woman but just because you are gay doesn't mean that you shouldn't be allowed to get married. I'm not gay but I stand up for gay rights. You shouldn't be discriminated just because you arent attracted to the other sex. It's not your fault that's just what your body has feel for.So that's how I feel, don't let nobody tell you what you can or cant do because you can always try and take the matter to a court room or go to a state that legally marries gay couples.
Marriage is and has always been a part of the Christian and Roman Catholic Church.
Eh? You're so wrong, haha! Dude, pagans were around for a lot longer than Christians or any orthodox religon. Marriage may be from the Gods, but it's not just from one! Haha. That's aweseome. I can't believe you actually think that's true!

As to the reference of choosing to be gay/lesbian, it is a choice
I'm slightly confused, though I'm glad I'm not included in that statement. Polysexuals unite! *Ahem* My soul might argue with you. He once fell in love with his best friend. I forgot how it turned out. ( and that is so not sarcasm ) Love, LOVE!! Not infatuation. Thought I'd point that out in capital letters.
Thought I'd also say, you choose to marry, not to love.
Too late, LTR, I did it I think.
