Hello everyone. This is the first time I have ever posted anything before. But as I was reading other discussions this came to mind. A couple weeks ago in school my History class got into an arguement about God and school. It basically happened becuase we have a club in school called "Youth Alive" They meet every tuesday morning and just talk, discuss, and pray. Well it came time for Yearbook Pictures and the administration would not allow thier clubs picture in the yearbook. The administration said that they would not allow it in becuase it is promoting Christianity. I think this is wrong becuase it is still a club who should be recognized. In history we were argueing about why the picture shouldn't be in there. It was said that it shouldn't be because it IS forcing the relgion on people. However people agreed it was ok if it was a Satanic group or another relgions picture going in. How is this fair?

the schools just want to avoid controversy. i feel sorry for them for having to deal with BOTH sides *itching ALL DAY LONG! but basically they're going to *iss someone off either way.....
damned if you do; damned if you don't.
other than that i agree with jookly.

I actually had the same problem... I was in charge of the youth alive club in my school last year and they said becuz it was promoting religion they oculdnt allow it However, I agree with all the other posts becuz if ONE other club has their picture in the yearbook the school cannot legally exclude the youth alive becuz of what it represents. If you want some for information about this, email one of my good buddies Brian Adams at youthalivenj@aol.com.... he'll explain the whole thing a lot better than I can. Hope I helped. God Bless, Katie

thanks for the info Snoop, If it is indeed an official school club than it should be allowed in the year book, definitly. If the school didnt want the picture than they shouldnt have the club.

i know exactly what she's talking about. my school has that same group. here's as much detail as i can give you about it. like she said, it's a group that just gets together to discuss, decide, and pray. it's a before school activity. it's run by students under the supervision of a teacher. it does not interfere with any students who do not wish to participate and it does not interfere with the education of those who do. it's not a big deal, in my opinion, to put their picture in the year book. if they are a school club, they should be in the year book. it's no different from the soccer/basketball teams to the chess team to the jazz band. it's all extra-curricular activities and i don't see how it's "forcing" religion on people. people aren't even forced to look at the picture, let alone believe what youth alive participants believe, or go out and live christian lives, or witness to people. if christians went out and literally forced beliefs into people's lives, that is the only way you can "force" religion on someone. so in conclusion, i'm saying that rejecting their picture into the year book is as much forcing the practice of atheism as it is forcing christianity... exactly... not at all forcing squat. just let 'em have their picture in it. why's that so hard? god bless, snoop

I would need more details to make an educated oppinion on this but from what you have given i dont think the picture should be allowed in the yearbook. Religion should not be brought into a school in my opinion. (unless of course it is a religious school of some kind.) As far as the people in your history class deciding it would be ok for another religion to have a club pic, I think that is wrong and hypocritical. Definitly should be the same rules for all religions/faiths.
