I thought it was important for us to acknowledge this heroic woman for her success in furthering equal rights.

Oh my goodness, do I really have to list everyone who I think deserves their own day?

-Mother Teresa (even though she is not from the US, she still did an INSANE amount of good in this world)
-Most of our Presidents (aside from the scummy ones and Washington and Lincoln who already have holidays)
-John Marshall (one of the first SC Justices, started the idea of Judicial Review)
-Fredrick Douglas
-Harriet Tubman
-Paul Revere

Well thanks for those names.

I'll add Malcolm X and Huey P. Newton; I guess Nat Turner too

Still that doesn't change the fact that Rosa Parks has her own day. Oh wait Rosa Parks doesn't have her own day. I do believe that she has her own day. It was a day WHEN SHE DIED where people felt the need to acknowledge this great woman. I'm glad that people are able to show her the respect she deserves. JFK even got his day of silence. Did he deserve it? YES! Everyone does and they have. We wasn't alive when most of these people died so we wasn't around. Rosa Parks doesn't have her own day where we learn of the things she did. She's dead and people wanted t respect that. True Rosa Parks isn't the ony one that did anything during the civil war. We should learn about them EVERY DAY! We should learn about American history and that should entail blacks. In school you actually have to take a searate class to learn about what blacks did (unless you just want to hear about slavery). If we learned about everyone that helped during the civil rights someone would say "Well why do we have to learn about them and not about people who helped during World War I." Either way there are going to be critics. I'm glad though that we can learn about these people freely and people gave Rosa the respect she deserved.

I could go on all night...do I really need to, or has my point been made enough?

Well give those names please. You can come on here and say anyone deserves more than someone else. Where are those names. If he really does feel that then give me some examples. Also I don't know what you're talking about Reactionary. I don't see this person on here.

Are you fucking kidding me?? I'm not trying to start anything. And I wouldn't have praised anyone else who said what you just said because it's effing retarded! Saturnmoth is not a racist. He simply said Rosa Parks isn't the only one who helped during the civil rights movement, and I totally agree. How can you target Saturnmoth for saying something so insignificant, when he's isn't the one in this thread who supports segregation? Reactionary is the biggest racist/white supremacist here, but you ignore him and chastise one of the least racist people on YN. What the hell?

He's not trying to discredit her because she is black. He only pointed out how other black civil rights leaders get less attention. And I agree that is a little unfair.

And this is a public forum. I can respond to you all I want. I really don't care if you're sick of me.

When you try and discredit someone else, because of the color of their skin that's rascosm. So many people have done something for this country and many haven't. Instead of saying that in honor and respect for her he/she tries to make ot look Rosa Parks doesn't deserve the day of silence. If someone else deserves it give names. Don't just say some many more people have done a great job in this country. Who are these other people? I'm sure we have given them their respect too.

I so not think saturnmoth was being racist. It's not like he said that blacks were somehow not equal to whites, he was just saying that there are others who have done more than her who have not been recognized as much. That includes blacks as well as whites. There is nothing racist about that.

I had an amusing pun about your name, but I will save that for a more appropriate time...

I have yet to see anything racist come from Saturnmoth. It seems like you're just trying to cry racism every chance you get.

Oh my God Saturnnoth you really are a rascist. Every post I have read of yours have somehow stated that some black person doesn't deserve something. Then you always say you don't want to sound rascist. Well let's see you sound RASCIST. Rosa Parks I do believe got her day of mourning because you know what she's dead. She died in our lifetime and the people you mentioned did not. MLK got his day also. So did Medgar Evers. Do you actually think this country would not have went into an uproar if they had a day of silence for Nat Turner? I mean I would have done the same thing if I was him, but he murdered over 11 white men, women, and children. White people mourned Rosa as well not just blacks. Also do you really think Rosa just didn't move from her seat? Oh me she was one of the "head honchos" in the Civil Rights movement. That's the one that everyone remembers though. Before you try and discredit someone's acitivities and what they did in this country learn it first.
