At some point, most everyone is know to make some kind of joke like that. I don't think it's right to say it to a person...but I've made them before...and my friends are all accepting of jokes made about them, myself included. But f they go on and on about it...I'd tell them to shut up.

I still say it is perpetuating ignorance.

people are too sensitive about racial jokes nowadays. alot of "stereotypes" are actually based on truth. i have no problem with people telling racist jokes btwn a group of friends. As long as they are not aimed towards certain people that actually there. Now i know most of you all will think that wrong or as i have read "ignorant". But the truth is racist jokes are not meant to be anything but funny nowadays. Ignorant is automatically labelling and profiling racial jokes as ignorant. I hang out with a lot of black, mexicans, puertoricans, and asians. i tell a lot of racist jokes to them, thats the type of relationships we have. we give no meaning to the jokes except for the fact that they are funny. what kind of friend cant call eachother to make fun of eachother, the point is to make eachother laugh. People are too hung up on racist jokes, now if they are intended to be hurtful, i have no tolerance for that.

As to the question that started this debate, all depends on the situation

Yeah that was some bad grammar on my part there... sorry. But I wasn't criticizing knighthammer's grammar either, just proposing a possible explanation as to why you misunderstood him on the whole simpsons thing.

What are you talking about?

Fuschia had a quote from you and I thought that's what she was calling a run-on (as she used a runon to talk about someone else's runon).

quote:
I assume that people who dont wear black panther symbols or white hoods or burn crosses are not racist its just jokes lighten up a little it wont kill you.
And on the topic of runons.....
Itdoesn't have to be that extreme to be racism.

The original draft of The Lord of the Rings featured Chuck Norris instead of Frodo Baggins. It was only 5 pages long, as Chuck roundhouse-kicked Sauron's ass halfway through the first chapter.

What are you talking about? Knight combined two sentences into one. That's a run-on sentence. Thus I misunderstood it and thought he was ragging on The Simpsons, which he wasn't. My bad. But the fact still stands that it was a run-on.

And seriously, how can you people tell if the intent isn't malicious? Do you have little sunglasses that let you see if the person is just joking around?

I was making a comparison but come on that quote from clerks is funny its not racist its just funny and no right minded human should be in any way offended and if they are they deserved it because you do NOT have the right to NOT be offended.

Even still, other people will hear it. Unless we're talking about telling jokes as you hang out in a sound proof room.

That has nothing to do with anything. nudity can be tasteful, racism cannot.

If it is really out of line, yes, I would tell them to stop. My friends and I watch what we say around another kid as his brother is gay. If we wouldn't want people saying those things to us, then we prob. wont say it.

THis is a prime example of an ethnic JOKE please I want everyone to read this quote from "Clerks II" movie of the year 2006:

Randal Graves: Since when did 'porch monkey' become a racial slur?
Dante Hicks: Since ignorant rednecks started saying it a hundred years ago.
Randal Graves: 'Porch monkey' is something my grandmother use to call me because I use to sit on the porch all day looking at the neighbors.
Dante Hicks: That's like calling someone a "kike". Did you ever think that your grandmother was a racist?
Randal Graves: No way. She had the utmost respect for the Jewish community. She use to tell me to be nice to the Jewish kids or else they'd put the sheeny curse on me.
Dante Hicks: WHAT THE F--K!?
Randal Graves: What!?
Dante Hicks: Sheeny is a racial term for Jewish people. Your grandmother was a racist.
Randal Graves: My grandmother was not a racist! Wait... Now that I think of it. She did refer to a broken bottle as a "n****r blade" once. Maybe my grandmother was kind of a racist.
Dante Hicks: You think?

I have friends/acquaintances who make gay jokes or racial jokes, and though they say, "Oh, c'mon *insert name here*, we're just kidding," they don't care enough to knock it off. Random people are going to care even less if you tell them to knock it off.

For example: Avenue Q is PC taboo. Yet it's funny. In Avenue Q's case, we know that it's supposed to be a pardody therefore it *is* funny. That's totally different than telling a racial or gay joke. Once again, it's fiction.

That was exactly my point. You know that on a show like Will & Grace a gay joke isn't malicious. When someone random says it, you have no idea how you should interpret it. Very very different.

I saw on the news some story about a land lord who evicted all the gay people from his apartment building because the show ended.
That seems kindof far fetched. And a good basis for a lawsuit.

YOG:

I agree. Personally, Will and Grace is one of my favorite TV shows, yet I'm against bad jokes. I know, I know, hypocritical. . . But honestly, Will and Grace contains *clever* humor, unlike some of the disgusting racist and gay jokes that are passed around the school and communities we inhabit.

quote:
FUSCHIA:
maybe not that stupid, just that ignorant. people are products of their surroundings, and if someone grows up hearing nothing but negative stereotypes about groups of people through the jokes that are told around them, what else do you expect them to think?

Again, spot on. It's the same ideology that pertains to verbal and physical abuse. If the child grows up thinking he's worth nothing, he'll come to *accept* he's worth nothing. And then, he may pass on the same ideology to his children. Stereotypes are human made, which means they are something we can (and should) break.

YOGORE:
You're amazing.

Thank you. Smile
