Clpo's just being respectful and trying to edge closer to what *should* be the norm by now. He is in no way "wierd," but rather "progressive." Some racial/homosexual/sexist/etc. jokes may seem funny, but that's because people have been permeating these stereotypes and some people are blind, ignorant, or apathetic enough to swallow it right up. I frequently tell my friends (and people I'm not too friendly with) to lay off the offensive jokes, seeing as they make one appear stupid, disrespectful, and completely and totally insensitive. We shouldn't try and PC everything (as Avenue Q implies, haha, but as Yog said, they're "making fun of" the stereotypes) but where offense can be avoided, by all means, don't rub somwthing as blatantly offensive as a race joke in someone's face. Anyway, there ya have it.

Racism, according to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, is defined as "discrimination or prejudice based on race." And what are you doing by making racist jokes? Discriminating based on race. It's a racist remark to say that blacks are inferior. Making a joke about it doesn't change the fact that it's racist.

Everyone laughs at a good joke. That's the difference between a good joke and racist joke. But by all means, go ahead and say them. Just don't complain when someone gives you a taste of what they think about your jokes.

Stereotypes are true, in some cases. But if you crack a joke about how much black people like fried chicken to a black vegetarian, no one's going to laugh. Stereotypes are a form of generalization. Sigh...I'm black, and I tell black jokes. I hate to say it, but it's also who you're around. It does promote ignorance, but sometimes you just have to let mess liek that roll off your shoulders.

Well, I WOULD tell my friends that rascist, sexist and homophobic jokes arent appreciated. Except for the fact that they would do the same, and I havent ever heard one from them.
I can laugh at good jokes, but i dont laugh at terrible stereotypes, alienation, and discrimination.

And if i want to speak up against someone else or politely ask someone to stop, when they are speaking up or telling a rascist joke, thats fine. I'm not infringing upon anyones right to anything. You know how a sterotype becomes a stereotype? BECAUSE ITS TRUE!!! If you cant laugh at a funny joke then there is something wrong with you. All these sensitive subjects about race tear us apart! Well i say if you think RACIST JOKES are funny then let me tell you something that you may not know "You are a racist" because you can laught at the joke tells the people around you that you find that certain race like that. Reason being is that the racist jokes usually tries to exploit a negative quality that a race may have thereforw if you advocate it then your racist.
And Yes i would ask my friends to stop and if they refuse then they are not your friends

i wouldnt because racist jokes and gay jokes are funny as hell i love to hear them and tell them call me a racist if you want but loosen up! its not serious my only rule is if you arent secure enough to tell a racist joke to the people its about YOU shouldnt tell it at all.

i agree with you, wholeheartedly. i couldnt word it quite like that, but that was exactly what i was thinking.

Freedom of speech gives people the right to say what they want... But there's also values and morals added on to the Constitution. your values should keep you from poking fun at races and cultures that are different than yours. Many of the people who joke have no idea what these people have been through. And I mean, no idea. Just because they speak a different language, talk a little funny, dress funky, doesn't mean they are any different from you. We are all human beings, who all want to be treated decently and morally. Everyone deserves that. And unfortunatley, not everyone gets it..
