Last year, the local elementry school tried to pass a referendum to rase the taxes for the school (it's a pretty poor school) so they could continue sponcering sports, band, and other extercurricular activities. It didn't pass by nine votes. My sister goes to this school. I used to go there. The teachers there are great, very encouraging, yet the school doesn't have a lot of money.
They're going to try to pass another referundum, but I do not think it will pass, as they are asking to incerease the taxes even more this time.
One thing bothers me the most: the band is gone. I leared to play the saxophone at that school (have been playing for 6 years so far). Now without the money to support the program, I'd like to do something about it.
I want to teach children how to play the sax. It is the only instrument I am skilled at (know a little clarinet, but it is just as bad as my German!), but I feel that I have potentioal to do someting with my talent.
I do not know of anybody who would be willing to help me out with this project, and in all honsty, I am somewhat shy when it comes to things like this.
And it seems unrealistic that a parent will buy or rent an instrument, an espensive instument at that, so that thier child can try to play it.
I own two saxes - an alto and soprano, but these have sedemental value, and I know how clutzy begginers can sometimes be (I've broken them several times!), yet I've got to do something...
Come to think of it, there are two people I know at my church who wanted to start a children's band. Perhaps they could help out. If you have any ideas, please drop me a line at sarisax@peoplepc.com !
Bye!! Saraj
