So i have self diagnosed that I may have a Hero Complex and when I think objectively I probally do have such a complex. The 4 Careers I'm really intrested in is The Marine Corps(Heros), Fireman(America's SuperHeros) Cop(Heros with Donuts) and Special Agent with the FBI(SuperCops) so does that give me a Hero Complex? Am I totally obsessed with savin people? is this a good thin our what some opinions please.

no I wouldn't care whole "secret identity" deal right I don't care if the people whose lives I save never know my name being called a hero and getting medals is all and well but if every act of heroism in just WW2 had been given the medal they merited just about every vet would have a bronze star at the very least. It's not the reward for saving lives that matters it's the act of risking you own life that others may live that truly counts

I think it's an awesome thing if you want to do those things in order to save people, but if you want to save people so that everyone thinks you're great and amzing, for your own pride, then it's a bad thing. Would you care if no one knew that you saved people?

I dunno amp, maybe its that you like the risk that could be involved and at the same time doing something supposedly productive???

Btw, cops are evil!!!!! don't be one....lol. btw, here is my theory on that....cops are nice in the beginning and think they can be nice and change the world one villian at a time, but then they meet some shit heads and turn into shit heads themselves and soon begin to think they are the cats meow.....

ok, that turned into a rant, sorry....back to you...

i don't know if you are totally obsessed with saving people so much as wanting to have a heroic like role and be able to say you have one???

You might want a break from the ordinary. Or, to be praised for a little while.
I don't think it is anything to worry about though. But, that is what the doctors told me last time and now things have gotten worse. Hmm....

You've got to get on with my own life.

haha... so last week my shrink told me that I was in denial about being gay. She asked me 3 times if I was gay, and then when I started laughing at her, she told me I'm in denial.

HAHA!!!

God, I don't know amp, if I did I would actually be making money having people visit me and not just be sitting here being depressed.

And I really am straight, please, I'm not just in denial. I really am attracted to men. Please people...

haha, actually to be entirely honest, I have amazing insurance. It's exactly $10 an hour visit. And 2 of my therapists are free b/c the state pays for them. So actually it's not really that bad. I just want $100

Anyway... I think I did an excellent job of diagnosing you. You're just in denial

See how good I am at this!!!

if that's a hundred bucks i don't wanna know how much actual couch time costs

I don't see my Dad's job as a failure hell he makes more than I ever will that's for sure just not a path I ever wish to take and as to my family i couldn't give a crap about their brains cause I can beat them all down physically (cept dad and for him it's just a matter of time)

I'm the eldest too, and the only person I have a good relationship with is my sis. Who I am personally putting to bed now as my mom is out dating another screw ball who will probably be just as abusive as the last two. Oh well, so anyway,

I think what that means is that you are trying to get away from what you perceive as your fathers failure to go out in to the world and change it. You feel that you aren't good enough for the rest of your math prodigy family, and so you want something to call your own.

There you go, $100 please!!!

nope I have a great relationship from my folks and I'm more a rebel in my family, my old man is a software engineer and I consider a cubicle/desk to be second only the bermuda triangle in terms of soul sucking, life taking evil. I'm way more outdoorsy than the rest of my family very big into huntin and fishin and guns and knives and everything. everyone else is an artist or a math prodigy or both. I still have a pretty good fmaily relationship (except siblings but that's just cause I'm eldest)

hmmm... perhaps you were unable to form an attachment to your parents and now you are tying to find a father figure in these heros you wish to impersonate.

Or better yet,
Your never felt true love from your father and now all you wish to do is please him and the only way you can think to do that is to jump in to burning buildings.

God... I am good, I should get paid to be this good. My therapist says that I'm brilliant and am entirely able to help myself. Do you think that's just b/c I am paying her... Oh well. haha

I don't really try to please people but I will rush into a burning building to save them (I haven't yet but I will)

My therapist says I'm a "people pleaser" which basically means that I freak out when other people are even a little bit upset with me and I try constantly to make other people happy. Maby you have that?!?!

I don't know, it seems like it's bad to assign "complex" to something. Because as my therapist also says, I have a "borderline personality" but she doesn't diagnose it as a "borderline personality disorder" b/c it doesn't affect my day to day functioning's to form relationships with people. So while you may have a thing for being the hero... I doubt it's a "complex"
