Simple right, a few morons have ruined us in the eyes our elders which really doesn't matter cause most of us don't care what our elders think any way.

I think that the stereotype is based on the actions adolescents make. It is we teenages who represent eachother. There are many teens today who are so rude to adults..Meaning students towards teachers...sure sometimes the teachers can be a big pain, but the way we react to those type of situations is what they judge us on.....THen there is the vulgar language. It is everywhere, and is becoming so fluent that teens don't even realize they've said it because they've gotten used to it, it's their second language.....If we were to think of the actions we take, then maybe there would be more respect, otherwise, it will be the same story for generations to come.........And yes, there are some teachers or adults you really could careless, but hey, thats life, you have to learn how to deal with it, and it is how you deal with it that counts.

Hi my name is Sara and i'm 17. Well i would have to say both age AND adolescent actions. Becuase, 13-year olds are viewed differently than 18 year olds. Being 17, a lot of older ppl discriminate against me...thinking i'm a bad influence, make bad decisions. Ppl say we all smoke, do drugs, etc. Not me.

I was never taught to fear my parents, and I think I'm pretty respectful to old farts.

And then, as the books were told, Fina replied: "A can of worms, my dear friend? What has this to do with reason?"

Age, immaturity and adolescent actions are all entwined. Stereotypes about teenagers regarding all three were not just created recently.

We didn't just learn insubordination. Our parents, fearing to repress us as the generation before theirs did to them, spoiled our generation. Most kids were not taught respect to authority/older figures because they're allowed to walk all over their parents.

My parents taught me to fear them, respect them, and still love them. In return, I'm (mostly) respectful, and completely respectful of those older than I am. (Now. I wasn't always this way, of course. We all go through rebellious periods.) Unless you lose my respect, you have it by default.

If an adult wants to stereotype me as a loud, obnoxious, irresponsible teenager, let 'em. I know I'm not that way, and I don't give a flying rat's ass if they do.

I'd say age.
Especially at school, most of the teachers and janitors and whoever else works there keep their head down whenever you so much as look at them.
It's nothing to do with how you're dressed, the way you're acting, or even whether or not they know you personally. Adults are afraid to so much as smile at a teenager.

well i think age cause when ur 17 ppl say like ur trying to stay into ur kid days cause ur afraid of the adult world.if ur like 15 u like ur father more than ur mother or the other way around.and befor u turn 13 ur suppose to be innocent.it just seem to me that age always comes first, no matter how u think.unless ur parents r considered to be the smartest thing.

I think it's adolescent actions. I for one am stereotyped as a Freak/Goth/ and Hippie. Now all the things I'm called are because of the clothes I wear, the music I listen to, and the things I say. i don't really think age has anything to do with it, immaturity could though because some people are stereotyped as stupid just because they act like three year olds.
