I spent 2 weeks in a psychward, while I was there some of my roommates were cutters. They did these things
1. Find a "contact for safety" in otherwords, if you need to cut, find someone to talk to not do it
2. Get a rubberband, a skinny one, where it on your wrist, when you need to cut, snap it on your wrist instead. The pain from that can help to make you not cut.
3. Make a list of other coping skills... things you enjoy, I've got a list of about 15 myself. When you need to cut, use one of your skills instead to calm yourself. These can be as basic as taking a shower or coloring. Just something you enjoy that won't hurt you.
4. Also, think about starting a journal, yeah...it's clique, and it doesn't work for everyone. But if you need to process your rough times, that can be helpful.
I'm not a therapist, and I'm not a cutter, but if you need someone to talk to, AIM me: toughgirldb8r
