Have her try again, if you think it will help, but at least you do have someone you can go to if you need it. It may not be much, but it is something.

Actually, I have talked to my best friend's mom, who went through depression when she was a teenager. She kind of understands, and she is really nice. She tried to talk to my mom at one point, but my mom just insisted that everything was fine and it was just a phase.

Well, I've talked to my English teacher before, but she isn't around anymore. And my family members either don't understand or don't care. They say pretty much the same thing as the guidance counselor, minus the hospital thing because they don't want to pay the bills. It really hurts when even my family won't listen. I hate myself so bad sometimes...I somehow manage to screw everything up and cause my family problems. I just want to be loved.

Have you talked to a friend's parent or a trusted family friend? Perhaps they could help your family see things your way. Also, try calling some of the numbers at the top of this forum to see what they suggest. It seems as if you would really benefit from having a constant person to talk to, and I hope you'll be able to get one soon.

That's the LAST thing she should be saying...

Well, I just wish I had someone to talk to. Even if they're not qualified. The hard thing about talking to anyone is that there is the chance they'll decide you're really screwed up and don't want anything to do with you. My school therapist said I was pretty messed up and if I couldn't get a grip on myself I should go to a hospital.

That doesn't seem quite right. I mean, like, "these people aren't good enough to have an actual practice, so let's dump them on our kids"? I don't know if my school therapist is actually qualified or not - he's just looking for something to do while he gets qualified for another job (he loves to tell us that).

I don't know if it's true or not, but that's the urban legend that goes around.

In College, the idea is that the health people who work there are there because they couldn't get jobs in actual practices/clinics/etc.

Yeah, I found my English teacher to be a lot more helpful than the therapist. She actually listened to me.

I have to say, in my experience, the cafeteria lady and the Janitor made much better therapists then the so-called actual one.

Yeah, trying to talk about how you feel is really scary - the one time I told someone I felt so helpless because I had nothing left that was totally mine to control.

Don't you people have school therapists?

Yeah, I have a school counselor, but he doesn't really understand anything beyond "Welcome to our school!" He thinks that kids with problems like depression and eating disorders are stupid, attention-seeking, and should just get over with. This was not the guy I really wanted to discuss my life issues with.
