Can someone tell me why, in this day and age, we are still obsessed with death and destruction? We, as Americans, are brought up to believe in freedom, prosperity, and peace...yet it seems to me that everything that we hold dear represents the opposite. Our president is more concerned with killing than he is with bettering the lives of his own citizens, the very people he's supposed to represent. We have people dying, living in the streets, children who can't read or write, who have no access to important life-altering information, yet our "beloved" government chooses to focus it's energy on a country half-way around the world. Personally I would rather die by the hand of a terrorist than live to see our great nation perpetuate this violence. If we as a country are so dead set on dedicating our resources on other countries, we should at least attempt to figure out a peaceful way to do so.

Well, apparently you could care less if our nation was completely destroyed by terrorists! Yes, lowering illiteracy rates is important but right now, protecting our country from the possibility of a nuclear war is much more important.

WHAT??? The point I'm trying to make is, Iraq has not provoked this attack. Instead of us going over and BEING terrorists ourselves, we should focus on the problems we have here in America. If our government doesn't stop worrying so damn much about other countries, there won't be a country left for them to defend. We need to stop stressing about things that MIGHT happen and start worrying about the things that ARE happening. Oh and the "life-altering information" I was talking about...technology, the internet, this medium we ourselves use every single day. There are people in this country who can't gain access to this technology that we take for granted.
As for the person above you, I live in white, middle class America. My town has no homeless, no poor people, we are the lucky ones. Know that not all people who are homeless CHOOSE to be, know that not all people can simply just STOP using drugs, know that we all need to have a little compassion for our fellow American citizens. We don't have the resources to begin this war, hell...we can't even take care of our own. It isn't our business if Iraq is democratic or not...our business is here. I support our troops who were sent to fight someone else's war, and I pray to God that they all come home safe. Because if they don't, then the blood is on George W. Bush's hands.

Yes I totaly agree with you why is our goverment so concerned with the poverty and wellless ness of people in a counrty half way around the world! But I feel that the only point you are trying to make is that we are living in poverty and the point I am trying to make is that poverty will never go away there will always be poverty and you cant fix everything in the world that is messed up! I feel that you are trying to say that people who are living in poverty have no way of getting out well i feel very differently about this i think every person can change Just think of it as a person who is on drugs and that person stops that is in the same case as a homeless person or some one who cant read there are things and places that are called shelters and every where you look there are shelters!! and if you dont see any shelters near where you live then instead of sitting here complaining that there is poverty in the world then i think you need to do some thing about it like maybe atart a program where children who cant read get help by going to a shelter or even open up a shelter and if your not old enough to start a business go to your city hall and pass a petition or get an adult to help you work the shelter and you can raise money around your town by maybe having a charity car wash or some thing like that anything will make a difference as long as something is done then there wont be poverty to worry about I know poverty will probaly be around for ever but the little thing can make a big change remeber big things come in small packages!!

quote: Our president is more concerned with killing than he is with bettering the lives of his own citizens, the very people he's supposed to represent
We are fighting a war to protect the country from terrorists right now........ quote: We have people dying, living in the streets, children who can't read or write, who have no access to important life-altering information, yet our "beloved" government chooses to focus it's energy on a country half-way around the world.
Yes people die, yes people live on the streets, yes some people cant read and write. Those are problems in every country. But those things can all be changed by the individual, a kid can learn to read. A homeless person can find a shelter, get a job, and begin to secure themselves financialy. The reason that many people are homeless is because they choose to be. And as far as people dying..... thats always gonna happen. Im not sure what information is life altering? What are you refering to? The government is half way around the world protecting our country and saving another, not harming us. quote: Personally I would rather die by the hand of a terrorist than live to see our great nation perpetuate this violence.
um.................. quote: If we as a country are so dead set on dedicating our resources on other countries, we should at least attempt to figure out a peaceful way to do so.
pffffft, we arent fighting Iraq because we want to "dedicate our resources" we are doing it because of the opression of teh Iraqi people and terrorists that Saddam is harboring, and many other reasons. Good luck U.S.A
