There's a huge summit between different government officials from various countries, and a whole lotta technocrats (government communications agents), and what they're proposing, which the U.S. is right to oppose, is have the United Nations control the freaking internet. Now, there's a lot of folks on here I imagine that can see no harm in the U.N. Of course, if they only knew, then they would see the harm. But save that for later. The point is, the internet belongs to the private sector, not some government agency, and sure-as-heck not some world government body. I am a Texan and an American, not a "world citizen." Our internet system was designed in America and then given over to the private sector. This U.N. garbage sickens me, and so much so that ...well:

If you live on the Planet earth are you not a world citizen?
I am Saskatchewanian, Candian, North American (not American, I dislike it when people say that all people on the continent are American) and an earthling or world citizen.

You STILL haven't said how the U.N. intends to "control the internet," Joey.

quote: Texan and an American
Hmph. Typical Texan. He's a Texan before he's an American. What's the big damn deal about being a Texan citizen? Does it make you a first class citizen of America while all the rest of us are only second because we're from other states? I have not once said that I was a California citizen, nor do I plan to, because I believe in the United States of America. Although, no one should have any say about what is put on the web. Freedom of speech. I will fight to the death for that liberty. So burn the friggin' UN flag, just don't go around calling people who burn American Flags traitors and terrorists. ******* Anne Coulters. If she had her way there would be no free speech. Well, noticing how our soldiers in Afghanistan, Iraq, Liberia, and Bosnia are all under NATO/UN control, it would appear that no, we don't give a rats butt about the UN taking control of anything.
We don't give a rats ___ about the Supreme Court citing international law in their cases.
We don't give a rats ____ about the UN imposing gun control laws on us, or a global tax on us to pay for their anti-american programs.
Death to world government!

I think this would be impossible simply for the sheer size of the internet. The internet is expanding faster than the human race. There are 100,000 more new pages every hour. To control the whole thing is like throwing a hankerchief on a fire to smother it.
It can't be done.
And if it is done, people tend to rebel, and keep in mind that soldiers have consciences as well.

That's just too bad. TS. We've got our own problems. The spam is only part of the problem; The number of hackers coming from or hiding behind Chinese proxies is an even bigger threat, considering how dependant on internetworking our society is. Remember two years ago when a large group of Chinese hackers decided to attack various U.S. websites and services? Guess how we kept that from getting out of hand: We started null-routing traffic coming from China. The next time the hackers might be a lot more aggressive than the ones two years ago. In any case, China is the last nation that should have any sort of influence or control over the internet.

jen, I read the stories/headlines from CNN and WorldNetDaily.
That's where I got the information from.
Ian, the "extremists" you point to are members of the Texas Republican Liberty Caucus, of which I am a member.
They're the Libertarian Party wing of the Republican Party.
And if I had a U.N. flag, I'd torch it too.

Do you have a list of regulations they want to impose? Laws they want to pass that would allow them whole or partial control over the 'net? Anything more concrete or specific? I'm not really sure how it would even be possible for someone to control the internet...what exactly is it that they want to do?
Love, Jen.

I told you people in the original post, there is a meeting in Europe over the U.N. taking complete control of the internet.
You all act as if I make this stuff up or something.
Confetti, thanks for your knowledge of the matter, and yes, I'm a resident of this world, but as it relates to a One World Government, I am NOT a citizen of the government.
I am a citizen of America and Texas. That's it.
If you doubt the U.N. wants to take control of the net, then you're obviously dumb. They already have the U.S. under its gun-control watchlist, and they recently claimed Yellowstone National Park is safer than first thought. Yeah, like we need the U.N. to tell us anything.
There needs to be a withdrawal of all our troops from the U.N.'s hotspots.
And they need to be kicked off our shore.

Ooh, great idea, sever all internet connections with China. Then the people will lose what little access they have to non-state controlled media and remain communist forever. Really smart. No one controls the internet and no one can. All this spam comes out of China because it has a lot of people just starting to be exposed to free enterprise and their first instinct is trying to get rich quick by scamming stupid people.

"This U.N. garbage sickens me, and so much so that ...well:"
What garbage? In your post, you did not clearly explain what the U.N's intentions were for "controlling" (and I very much doubt their intention is to "control" but rather have some say in the distribution of spam and prevention of hackers and viruses) the internet.
"I am a Texan and an American, not a "world citizen.""
You cannot be a texan and american without first being in this world.

Go into more detail, Joey. Or is one phrase all you have? How could this possibly work?
And of course so much comes from China, there's also one third of the world's population there.

That assumes that one is attempting to use the particular network controlled by the 'state overlords of doom' in question.

There's a difference between free trade and abuse.

Trade with other countries, as in free trade, then that's okay. As far as the U.N., WTO, IMF, World Bank, etc., then we need to get OUT. Sever all ties with NATO, the EU, everybody. This is the United States of America. If you little gypsies want to play World Citizen, go to Europe. The EU has practically taken over the entire continent.
