stopfcc.com
Censorship is alive and well in America right now. Thousands of radio stations have been forced to close certain segments, etc...Do you know that the FCC even wants to impose a $500,000.00 fine on the person who calls in to a radio station, and uses a cussword? ****ing lame...
PLEASE sign this petition. This is a REAL petition. This is not that lame petitiononline.com crap that nobody looks at.
If you like your freedom of speech, sign this, and tell your friends...

CFR stopped all lobbying groups composed of regular people. Of course, the law raised the limits of what individuals can contribute - ultra-wealthy individuals, like George Soros. Consider that the nation's largest citizen's-interest group, the AARP (which, by the way, I despise), is composed of 20,000,000 members - yet one person, George Soros, effectively has more money and political influence than 20,000,000 people, thanks to Campaign Finance Reform. Yeah, what a great reform that is!

quote: the panic and disruption that would be caused if some random person was aired on the radio and started bombarding the public with fake terror attack warnings. Think of the confusion it would cause. That's just one such scenario.
haha. Like when H.G. Wells read War of the Worlds on live radio. People still believed it, even though there were breaks saying it was a fictional story.

Yes, they are, and to influence government policy.
The National Abortion Rights Action League is composed of CITIZENS who donate money to get politicians to protect the rights they hold dear and oust those who betray them.
The National Rifle Association is composed of CITIZENS who donate money to get politicians to protect the rights they hold dear and oust those who betray them.
The Sierra Club is composed of CITIZENS who donate money to get politicians to protect the rights they hold dear and oust those who betray them.
The Christian Coalition is composed of CITIZENS who donate money to get politicians to protect the rights they hold dear and oust those who betray them.
Get it yet?

I'm sorry that I can't dumb things down to the level of a 3rd-grader or lower, but I'll try my best to help you understand: Historically, the primary purpose of the First Amendment (aside from freedom of religious expression without fear of persecution) was to protect citizen's right and ability to criticize government and elected officials. Thomas Jefferson expressed this best when he wrote, "The right of our fellow citizens to represent to the public functionaries their opinion on proceedings interesting to them is unquestionably a constitutional right, often useful, sometimes necessary, and will always be respectfully acknowledged by me." Although monetary donations by citizens and citizen groups is simply a modern-day extension of this. In fact, it is not much of a stretch to believe that the forefathers intended money as a means of political speech - this has been around since at least the Roman times. However, it is vastly more of a stretch to believe that the forefathers intended free speech to to cover group orgies on TV or freedom of 8 year olds to download pictures of women f***ing horses off the Internet.

There's got to be somewhere between full censorship and no censorship, but where is that? No matter what we do, there's still going to be someone mad. My family is really conservative, we don't watch or listen to anything with sex or a lot of violence. But I think the biggest problem is not having it out there [for adults to see] but kids watching inappropriate stuff. My sister gets grounded for watching anything but Disney & PBS, but there are kids who watch terribly violent stuff [& play video games & listen to swearing/bad stuff on TV/radio] I'm all for the right of free speech, but we can't let our children be exposed to such inadmissible stuff.

I'm all for any effort that restricts the influence of the media. What the FCC is proposing doesn't go nearly far enough. Personally, I'm far more concerned about violence in media than sex, but it's about time someone grew some stones and took on the media.
The irony is that the First Amendment no longer protects what it was originally designed to. As Bauhaus pointed out, the Campaign Finance Reform law, which had been relentlessly pushed by the media itself for decades, partially gutted political speech, which was intended to be protected by the First Amendment. Now, it seems, the First Amendment give you the right to talk about f***ing gerbils on television, but not the right to influence your government.

I seriously doubt it's $500,000.
And most radio stations air with a 4 second delay to delete any cuss words anyway.

Freedom of speech was lost last year when they passed the campaign finance reform where they have now banned for example, Kerry and Bush from running adds or speaking on t.v. in the last 60 days before an election. This allows the media to run all stories and adds that they want to and influence who they want for the vote.
