Lighten up everybody; just because Congress is controlled by the Republicans doesn't mean the "sky is falling." The liberals have cried bloody murder since Nov. 5 but it's not going to change! Bush will "look" like a fiscal conservative with the tax cuts (only rich people get them, not working people), but will continue to spend, spend, spend. Sounds familiar doesn't it? Everyone just needs to send a message to Republicrats and vote Libertarian. That's the ONLY way we're ever going to get anything changed. http://www.lp.org

Anarchy is one of those other political philosophies that looks good on paper; but you'd eventually have a leader of some sort arise out of an "anarchy."
I'm not an anarchist. I believe in government; there should be laws, but only if they are in agreement with the U.S. Constitution.
...
And tax rebates are different than tax cuts.
Yeah, you can get a "rebate," but all you're going to do with that probably is use it to pay more taxes - am I right?
If you really want to lower taxes, you've got to start at your county, city, school board level.
Those crazies just keep raising, raising, raising tax rates.
It's horrible.

I'm starting to think you're an anarchist, Joey . Not that it's necessarily a bad thing; I rather agree with it in fact. But in any case, I don't think most people consider the sky to be falling. After all, they're the ones who voted (or not) so it's their punishment/reward.

It's hyperbole to make a point; you should be able to infer that from a post, even without the inflection conveyed by a human voice. Yes, the working-class does get some tax breaks; but it's peanuts compared to what the 'rich' (however you define that) get.

Joey-- Just to let you know, many of the things you mentioned (prostitution, legalizing drugs) already are up to the state to decide. This is why Nevada has legal prostitution. And not too long ago they voted on legalizing marijuana. (They voted against it, surprisingly.)

You're in a strange place saying people are out of step thinking "the sky is falling" because Republicans are in control of a powerful government and military, yet all the while maintaining yourself that the sky really is falling based on your futurist interpretation of the book of Revelation.

Though the Bible states prostitution is a sin, those laws should be up to the states to decide. The absolute number 1 reason I'm a Libertarian is because our party is the only party dedicated and consistent enough to bring the government back to its intended size. Republicans have a hard time dealing with that whole "limited government, drug prohibition" stance; the federal government has no right to interfere with enforcing drug laws. Rights not granted to the government are reserved for the states or for the people (10th Amendment). http://www.joeydauben.com/Pray.htmYou'll see why [above link] I'm such a staunch advocate of decriminalizing drugs and suggesting drug abusers go to rehab instead of prison. But the Republicans claim they are for smaller government and that is just not the case.

I agree...the Republicans aren't going to be able to just pass any laws they want. Democrats in the senate are already hinting at possible filibustering. (Where one senator takes the stand and talks as long as they can to avoid a vote on a bill or appointment of a public official.) This threat is very strong and carries a lot of weight so Republicans will have to reason with the Democrats, and power will be spread out.
On a sidenote---I'm surprised to hear your political affiliation, Joey. While I see the positives in the Libertarian party, I also see many negatives. (Legalized, well anything almost...drugs, porn, prostitution, etc. etc. etc.) What exactly is it about the Libertarian party that appeals to you the most?

Violent revolution would also get the point across.
There are actually quite a few ways besides voting LP.
And actually, sure they'll still spend, but what wil they spend on? Military, corporate welfare, military, military support to Israel, military.... Most of it will be deficit spending, spending money we don't have. In principle it's still spending, but it's also what they will spend it on.
