I'm kind of curious to hear some other peoples opinion on this matter. I grew up in a very diverse city so it never really was a big thing for me. That is till i dated an African-American... people can sometimes be extremely judgemental about that kinda stuff. i've heard sermons at churches about how wrong it is. and then the way people stare and how everyone says its wrong. And even when your friends and family say they dont have a problem with it, you can just tell that they really dont agree with what your doing. Is there really anything wrong with dating someone a different race then yourself?? why are people so d*mn racist? Has anyone else dealt with this?

I don't mean to sound rude, but black women who oppose interracial dating are quite foolish. They are opposing their long-term best interests. As much we may pretend, caucasians are still the dominant race in the US. Racism perpetuates this. It's often subtle, not the overt racism it was 4 decades ago, but still racism. The only way around racism is through many generations of inter-racial breeding, until race is eliminated. Given what's already happening in parts of CA and NY, I'd say this is starting to happen already; it just has to continue elsewhere.

There is a book called 'If You Come Softly' by Jacqueline Woodson about interracial dating. It's really sappy but explores the issue pretty well.

There may be a lot of bitterness in the past between white and black, but we should look forward. Let the past stay past, it shouldn't get in the way of people's happiness now. We're a new generation and there's no reason for perpetuating a divide between white and black or any race at all. We shouldn't hold the actions of our ancestors against each other.

ATL muslim....

i understand what you mean but in my opinion those ways of looking at it are nothing more than a jealous cop out... if they are going to have a problem with it, it should be the same problem with any other race.. i think it is jealousy and nothing more on anyone's part that would use that type of reasoning... this was not directed at you just what you were talking about..

I think dating should be fun. It should not matter what race or heck, even what sex the person is! As long as you are comfortable around that person and you can be yourself without making your life complicated, it's all good.

Make more NOISE!

Dating some one outside of your race is in no way "wrong", but in actuality it may not be best...As an african american the issue of inter-racial dating is rather sensitive...If a black man were to bring home some one of another race that was not white--a rice of color as its commonly put(like a latino or indonesian or somethin)--then they may get by with little (but some) flack....but if that same brother were to bring home a white girl it would be a whole other story....to marry a woman of a race that has been the historical 'bain' to your existance is not, shall we say very tactifull when there are plenty of black sistas around.
(Some) Black woman look at a brother with a white girl as not only 'wrong', but as a personal insult....and (some) black people look at a black man with a white woman (& vice-versa) as a disregard for our ancestory and history......

Unfortunately, I live in an area that's about 90% white, so I don't have a lot of multicultural experience at all. frown But you're right, being opposed to dating someone of another race just because you can is...bullschnitsky. Just be who you are, and to hell with the judgmental ones. smile

I think that dating should be fun. And if you have fun and realy like the others company who cares what race they are. I wouldn't care. People who are doing this write now who happen to read this please don't breack-up. Those other people who have a problem with it will just have to deal. It is a free country.
