it is such a conundrum That's the whole beauty of it ... viewing the world from such a personal view and yet if you think about it... we are just a speck....one out of a million people unforgettable yet forgotten:O haha sorry not making sense here...but I guess even if we do pass away one thign that defines us is who we are and what we do

In dealing with complexity, especially on biological terms. Yes. Obviously. And in most areas we are far more complex when compared to other life forms (at least as far as we can tell). However we are constrained by the limitations of our mind, we like to simplify things and this makes ourselves and our world appear much less devine. We can understand only certain things, there are likely things that make other species complex that we do not comprehend. Also, while locally we look like something very special indeed, when you look at us on a universal scale you begin to feel very insignificant. Yea so I'm going to quote The Man "If we long to believe that the stars rise and set for us, that we are the reason there is a Universe, does science do us a disservice in deflating our conceits?" "Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people." - Carl Sagan M13 Globular Cluster and London at night

___So the accusation that humans may not be more complex than animals is what is driving you insane to the extent of sleep deprivation?

quote: "Are humans simple compared to ________(whatever)".
You'll have to ask my teacher, she came up with the question. I would interpret it as: Are humans the best possible being on the planet? Are we better than the animals? Or are we just plain? Ok thats too many questions coming from one question. Forget I asked.

quote: Are we as special as we think?
Define what you mean by special. If you mean unique when you say special, yes everything is special then. Also Stupidity brings up a good point, you need a point of reference or else this discussion won't go far.
