Wait, wasn't that one of the greatest financial periods for just about everyone? Everyone had money. Everyone had jobs. Then there came the uncertainty of the upcoming election and the market went to hell. (The market hates uncertainty.) Anyways, in under four years, a Republican President and congress has managed to somehow waste our nations biggest surplus in history, and put it in its greatest deficit. And you are all saying look at the now almighty economy. Hah! the interest rates have been forced to stay low, once Bush releases his grip on these we are going to see massive inflation. already the Euro which is supposed to be on par with the American dollar is worth around a $1.25. Keep praising the economy, it's going to blow up in your face.

Well, for one thing the economy was already in a natural downturn. It had grown at an unbelievable rate, and was so over valued that a correction/recession was bound to happen. Then 9-11 happened, and the economy plummeted further. Then we went to war in Afghanistan, and were forced to spend more on the military, security, etc. So really, I'm not surprised we have a deficit, nor do I think we should be worried. We have some job creation, the Dow is at 10,000+, and we're expected to have some more growth due to the holidays. Secondly, I never praised the economy; I just said that much of the economic growth and surplus of the Clinton years was due to many more factors than just Bill's policies. Taxes contributed to the surplus, the end of the Cold War helped decrease market anxiety, the dot.com bubble grew (and burst), some companies "crooked the books" (Enron, WorldCom, etc.) and spending remained relatively low. So consequently, we had a good economy that was grossly overvalued, and more money for the federal government.

QUOTE] There was no "Clinton recession". In fact, economically, Clinton was one of the greatest presidents ever. He got us a freaking surplus.

SURPLUS.

SUR. PLUS. NOT RECESSION.

Get it? Got it? You didn't? F*ck you. [/QUOTE]

Actually, the recession started in 2000, the same time Clinton was leaving office. And, though you might now realize it that surplus came about partially because Clinton taxed people more than he needed to, thus creating an overflow in cash for the government. Plus, that surplus probably wouldn't have happened if the republicans had passed his Universal Healthcare proposal...

First of all, whoever mentioned being able see things as they are supposed to be viewed and not from a personal angle is not a super-power, it's more or less called open-mindness.

I don't believe in death penalty not because I think it's cruel, but because I believe it is completely useless. I'm more for life-penalty. Proves more of a point, in my opinion.

Yes, they captured Saddam. Am I glad? Of course.
Somebody said it'll help the Iraqi people to deal with the US better. Bull. Some people, yes. But there will ALWAYS be people who will support him and his way of doings. Seems crazy? Probably. If you grow up in a certain way, in this situation, they grew up with this power, then that's the way your life forms. Some people hated it. Others respected the government, and believed that everything is done the way it's supposed to be done. You don't have to understand Arab culture to figure this out.

Should Bush be responsible for the capture? Somewhat. Although he wasn't the one "pointing the gun", he did take on the responsibility. Because when people talk about the war, they're not gonna list every soldier or commander, or general who was there. They're gonna say "Bush lead to war..."

Yeah, despite he engaged in stovepiping. The Bush Administration knowingly stepped around process the CIA has in place to sift through all its mixed intel and get a pretty good idea of the truth. Instead they took information directly from field operatives, who are notoriously inaccurate. He doesn't deserve any of the blame for getting that bad intelligence, despite the CIA hated it when he did that. It made them look like fools along with Bush. That's how he got the ridiculous information that Saddam was buying Plutonium from Kenya or whatever the place was. (Africa's all one nation to Bush anyways: "...the great nation of Africa..." -George W. Bush.)

Yes god forbid we hold the Commander and Chief accountable for anything. Of course we shouldn't hold him accountable for using bad intelligence that was already reported bad by the agency he we citing. Yes let’s use the age old excuse of bad intelligence because we know that’s a viable excuse. Roll Eyes
Yes Bush's decision to go to war ultimately brought about the capture of Saddam. Yes he did play a part, but the Republicans ridiculous rhetoric is making it sound like Bush was right ****ing there with the soldiers, pointing a gun at the slim ball of a human Saddam.

while we're on this tangent about hypocrisy, let's take a look at the hypocracy of the right.

quote:
William J. Bennett, author of "The Book of Virtues" and one of the nation's most relentless moral crusaders, is a high-rolling gambler who has lost more than $8 million at casinos in the last decade, according to online reports from two magazines.

The Washington Monthly said on its website that "over the last decade Bennett has made dozens of trips to casinos in Atlantic City and Las Vegas, where he is a 'preferred customer' at several of them, and sources and documents provided to The Washington Monthly put his total losses at more than $8 million."

In an article that depends on much the same reporting, the online version of Newsweek said that 40 pages of internal casino documents show that Bennett received treatment typical of high-stakes gamblers, including limousines and "tens of thousands of dollars in complimentary hotel rooms and other amenities."

Bennett declined to be interviewed Friday by The New York Times, with a spokesman saying that he needed to digest the articles before responding.

The fact of Bennett's gambling is not new. He has said over the years that he likes to gamble and that it relaxes him. What is unusual is the apparent extent of his losses; neither magazine reported his winnings.

Bennett told the magazines that he has basically broken even over the years.

"I play fairly high stakes," he said, but added: "I don't put my family at risk, and I don't owe anyone anything."

The magazines said they had no documentation that he was in debt but suggested that he had lost more than he had won. In response, Bennett is quoted as saying, "I've made a lot of money and I've won a lot of money," adding, "You don't see what I walk away with." He said he gave some of his winnings to charity and reported everything to the Internal Revenue Service.

The magazines said that in one two-month period, Bennett wired one casino more than $1.4 million to cover his losses.

The magazines said he earns $50,000 for each appearance in speaking fees on the lecture circuit, where he inveighs against various sins, weaknesses and vices of modern culture.

But Bennett exempts gambling from this list.

He has said in the past that he does not consider gambling a moral issue. When his interviewers reminded him of studies that link heavy gambling with a variety of societal and family ills, Bennett said he did not have a problem himself and likened gambling to drinking alcohol.

"I view it as drinking," he said. "If you can't handle it, don't do it."

Bennett is popular among social conservatives, but many of them consider gambling a serious problem. . James C. Dobson, the president of Focus on the Family and a member of a federal commission that studied gambling, said in 1999: "Gambling fever now threatens the work ethic and the very foundation of the family. Thirty years ago, gambling was widely understood in the culture to be addictive, progressive and dangerous."

During the 1990s, leaders of the conservative Christian Coalition joined with other religious leaders to create the National Coalition Against Legalized Gambling. Ralph Reed, the former executive director of the Christian Coalition, called gambling "a cancer on the American body politic" that was "stealing food from the mouths of children."

Friends of Bennett were reluctant Friday to criticize him directly.

"It's his own money and his own business," said Grover G. Norquist, the president of Americans for Tax Reform, a conservative advocacy group. "The downside of gambling losses is that the government gets a third of the money, which is unfortunate and probably a sin in and of itself," said Norquist, whose group advocates smaller government.

William Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard and another conservative ally of Bennett, agreed that this was a matter between Bennett, his wife and his accountant.

"It would be different if he had written anti-gambling screeds," Kristol said. "I'm sure he doesn't regard gambling as a virtue but rather as a rather minor and pardonable vice and a legal one and one that has not damaged him or anyone else."

Kristol said that Bennett was not being hypocritical. "If Bill Bennett went on TV encouraging young people to gamble the rent money at a Las Vegas casino or was shilling for gambling interests, that would be inconsistent" with his moral crusades, Kristol said.

As Bennett told The Las Vegas Review-Journal in 1995, "I've played poker all my life and I shouldn't be on my high horse about it."

We can also add your god, dumba$$ bush to that list (they have nuclear weapons my a$$! and don't even pretend that you went in for human rights reasons, republicans don't give a rat's a$$ about civil rights, that's an accepted truth, lol terrorist threat, oh please! LIES LIES LIES!), along with rush limbaugh and billy graham.

So basically nushoes or whatever his/her name is, is the pot, and i'm the kettle, and he's calling me black. So, i find that funny, the hypocrits (the right) going after other hypocrits. lol, ur pathetic.

Hmm, if the war had anything to do with oil, why am I still paying $1.60 for regular?

And they looted the deficit because of the Clinton recession that Bush got blamed for.

So much for those (conspiracy) theories.

He should have taken the first deal offered to him and gone into exile in luxury, instead of literally being run to ground! Still, we have created many more terrorists by the way we did it, and Bush & the big money crowd deceived us in order to get the oil (USA about out on our territory) and drain the $billions in surplus we had, for big business. They looted the treasury & now we have a gigantic deficeit! Confused

Yeah we captured Sadam Husein. Yes it does matter because now the Iraqis don't have to live in terror that when the Americans finally do pull out Hussein will return. Also since he's captured they might be more cooperative about providing information to Americans. Also since he's captured there might be less violence over in Iraq. By the way Bush is not responsible for capturing Hussein that was all the army unit that actually found him and captured him. Bush still lied about intelligence reports and his reasons for going to war. Anyways Hip hip hooray we capture Sadam Hussein.

The hypocrisy of the leftists is stunning.

Perhaps you ought to move to North Korea - It's communist, state-run everything, and run by a psychotic, power-mad dictator. Sounds ideal for ya.
