if there is one thing you want to change about our President, what would that be? i think bush is kidding himself when he says he is going to fix our economy and change our democracy into republican ways because nothing is helping and he isn't changing it anytime soon. Roll Eyes

George W. Bush

As president of this powerhouse that is the USA, the man is out of his element.

I'll play by the rules--

I'll only present one of Bush's nauseating flaws, though I've acquired enough "W Disappointments" to fill an economy-sized trash bag.

If you have the time, visit this UN site containing a list of the nations included in the COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS:

UN Human Rights Commision

Once you've arrived at the site, please scroll down to the very bottom of the page.

Please note a TABLE entitled Years of Membership.

You'll find that the United States of America has been an honorable an active member since 1947, but that our inclusion on this committe of the UN came to a halt in 2001.

We will resume membership again, but not until the year 2005.

Please recall: "Who was our president in 2001?"

I took the liberty of retrieving this quote from an article by a young reporter from Alabama, Seth Cropsey. Cropsey relates:

quote:
"...press reports from several sources agreed that the Bush administration's support for missile defense, its opposition to the 1997 Kyoto treaty on global warming and the previous administration's opposition to an international ban on landmines were effective instruments in the lobbying effort that removed the world's strongest defender and advocate of human rights from the U.N. commission".

He goes on to say that our country was replaced by Sudan. 'nuff said.

Here's another quote from an article by John Hanley, a conservative columnist who writes for TownHall.com.

quote:
A year ago, the United States was removed from the U.N. Commission on Human Rights. Other commission members, including China, Cuba, Libya, and Sudan, have since allowed us to rejoin their lofty ranks. But the United States should not be blinded by gratitude for this and remember that the initial removal resulted from disapproval of policies – America’s rejection of the Kyoto protocol and pursuit of a national missile defense – that are beyond the scope of the commission. The argument dismissing politicization gets awfully watered down after contemplating a lecture on human rights from an official whose home office overlooks Tiananmen Square.

This article is primarily about Bush's failing to support the ICC, and if you're interested, here's the link:

John Hanley

To sum it all up, Bush's administration tore us away from a more-than-worthwhile cause, making our leaders appear indifferent to the suffering and suppression of the citizens in other countries who desperately need our aid.

I would have appreciated a stronger protest from Bush's administration. ---there's my wish!

From bayefsky.com:

"The UN human rights treaties are at the core of the international system for the promotion and protection of human rights. Every UN member state is a party to one or more of the six major human rights treaties. It is a universal human rights legal system which applies to virtually every child, woman or man in the world".

I suppose W (and his administration) couldn't quite live up to this responsibility.

Humm, funny that you should say that, cause when the last unemployment report came out, it showed that despite the stock market holding at just above 9,000, the jobless rate is continuing to increase and is now at a 20 year high.

I must have missed that, I heard it was only a 9 year high, which made sense since the early 90's was boerdering a depression.

no I am up, of course I continued to buy at amazingly low rates while others bailed. Fidelity is our holder. And no, most have not reached 52 week highs...others have tripled surpassing 3 and 5 year highs.

Now most of you are too young to understand, hell I am too young to understand. But as for the economy, after 9/11 my 401k plan which I am lucky enough to have dropped like a stone!! In the last few months it has doubled!! When the stock market starts to go up, companies start to get money...when companies start to get money...people start to get jobs. Right now the only thing wrong with the economy is unemployment...which should go down soon.

where do you learn these things, if your teacher told you this...they should be fired!!!

Maybe you heard of Food For Oil, a UN project spearheaded by the USA and France????

Now it came to be common knowledge that food was not getting to the people, it was being stolen by the soldiers, this was proven when we cleaned out military bunkers and found OUR donated food in them.

Now most of you are too young to understand, hell I am too young to understand. But as for the economy, after 9/11 my 401k plan which I am lucky enough to have dropped like a stone!! everyone wants to talk trash when the times get tough, instead of complaining, go buy something from that little mom and pop store, right now they need the money. Help someone instead of placing all the blame on one man! WE ARE ONE NATION...act like one!

if i could change one thing about Bush-and i would change many-i would change his lack of knowledge of the world. he has never been outside of the U.S and therefore cannot possibly understand the intricacy of society at large and not just in the united states. also, his ignorance is played upon by the big businesses and the world is no better with him than they were without.

i would like to change bush's insights
he is using all the us's money when he could be using it on helping out our own country, instead of using it for war and all the nessacary stuff he does
some examples of what he could do for our country is : cleaning our neighborhoods, building more hospitals, and helping the poor people.

hmmmmmmm.....let's see. What I would like to change is the way he thought that the war was the solution to world peace. I'm not saying he's bad and all but I believed that ther was a more rational way in solving the problem of the Isrealis. But what done is done and I can't change it. He does care for the saftey of people worldwide and I understand why he thought it was the best. He might have had his own personal reasons but all in all I still believe that there was another way in solving the problem even if it would have taken a longer period of time to accomplish.
