there are students in school who cut/skip class/school everyday and get a second, third, fourth, and sometimes fifth chance at not getting into anymore trouble. i think that as soon as you skip class twice you should be kicked out of school. school is not a place to come and chill. its a place for you to better yourself and prepare you for the future. there are young kids in third-world countries who cannot go to school and its not fair that they can't. they would kill for an oppurtunity like we have at our fingertips. these damn american kids don't appreciate what they have. they need to be punished. null

it hurts the college too because sometimes the students are receiving scholarships or grants from the college. Therefore it affects the college too not just the student.

But that's completely their choice not to show up. I mean, they're paying for the damn class, so it really only hurts them...right?

If you think its bad in highshcool you should see what its like in college. Sometimes less than half the class shows up. Then there's the students who go by the fifteen minute rule which isn't really a rule. A lot of people skip classes so often the teacher doesn't even know they're in the class until they finally show up one day. Urgg it makes me so mad.

Only the ones who go to school. Many of them can't afford it. And only specific third-world countries have higher standards than American schools. Hell, it seems like most other countries around the world have higher academic standards than America. Take Europe for example. In parts of Greece, students are required to take at least three science courses per year. Here in the States, we have it easy.

I'm sorry...but i think this post is funny...why you ask? because, that would be alot of people out of school. I know lots of people that ditch both class and school. And I am one of them. But because we skip class doesn't mean we want to cause trouble. For most of us, its a break from this go to school and then go home life style...sometimes we just need a break...and the kids in 3rd world countries...most of them are much smarter then us

quote: not everyone can be just like you, a little prep who loves her school and loves going, so get over it....
No one likes going to school. I hate it with a passion. I'm an outsider at my school and no one likes me, but I go anyway. I have a future to worry about. Besides, I'd rather finish high school in 4 years instead of 5 or more.

I skipped school yesterday. What are you going to do about it? That's right, nothing. And it was fun. I found the coolest bookstore ever, so I still learned something, and bought some classic literature.

I never said I loved going to school. Nevertheless, I think it is important. Don't you dare call me a prep again or you'll be up for a serious verbal beating b*itch.

quote: Also what if they want to drop out and stop conforming to what the school wants them to do; to be perfect cookie cutter students who do their best to live in the american dream. Maybe they are the people who want to change things.. activists.
That last part made me laugh. Leaving school does not make you an activist. Do you know who really makes the big changes? Lawmakers, politicians, even leaders of grassroots groups count - but to reach their levels of intelligence or capability, one needs to attend SCHOOL first.

Ah... 5 by 40... 5 multiplied by 40... took me a while just to figure out what the hell you meant. (I use crazy Washintonian lingo) I had a feeling the Northeast would rank high on that list. Damn dirty *******s. Geometry: Just let me say that the further I moved in my education the more I realized the relavance of everything I was learning. If nothing else, knowledge of a subject can allow you to follow a conversation... or get the jokes in the New Yorker.

quote: Maybe they don't want to have to learn abunch of useless information such as geometry which, your really not going to need unless you go into architecture.
That reminds me of a 14 year old girl on the Judge Hatchett show. She said she didn't need math, so Ms. Hatchett asked her what 5 by 40 was and this poor girl didn't have any math skills whatsoever. I sat there watching with an answer within a second. It's kinda funny now though. Anyway... We need Geometry for alot of things. What if you wanted to find the area of your floor for tiling or carpeting. Would you rather pay someone an a**load of money to figure it out and install it or would you rather do the math and install it yourself? My parents really need geometry cause our new kitchen flooring looks terrible and we have like $60 worth of extra tiles.

If kids want to skip school I think they should have every right. If they aren't gonna take advantage of an opportunity like this then they will just fail. The fact is that kids are forced to attend school. I hate school and i hate the fact that we have so much stress and obligation to succeed b/c of school. If kids won't take the responsibility given to them by school then they can just fail that's all there is to it. I don't care how many chances they are given, b/c whether they drop out or come only on occasion they are still gonna fail. ~barbie

quote: It's stupid to base someone on what kind of language they use.
This is a message board. What else are we supposed to base our opinions on? quote: Maybe they don't want to have to learn abunch of useless information such as geometry which, your really not going to need unless you go into architecture. Maybe they'd rather persue their goals such as animal rights, or womens rights, or working at a homeless shelter. Things that change peoples perspectives.
Or maybe they're lazy, irresponsible bums. It could go either way, and I bet more people drop out of school because of laziness or some misplaced sense of rebellion than because they want to make a difference in the world. Also, did it occur to you that a person might have more resources and connections available to "change peoples perspectives" if they had a decent education? Or that being able to communicate effectively (with *gasp* language) might go a long way toward gaining support for those efforts?
