quote: 36 Georgia
Actually, Georgia is 49th-50th in the "smartest state" rankings. Our test scores are the lowest in the nation; we were beat by an infinitesimal amount with South Carolina's test averages.

quote: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- why does it matter if someone says aiight? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Because you look stupid.
Looks are deceiving. And who cares if you look stupid, it doesn't mean you are stupid. It's stupid to base someone on what kind of language they use. quote: How does dropping out of school make you an activist? Honestly.
Maybe they don't want to have to learn abunch of useless information such as geometry which, your really not going to need unless you go into architecture. Maybe they'd rather persue their goals such as animal rights, or womens rights, or working at a homeless shelter. Things that change peoples perspectives.

quote: why does it matter if someone says aiight? That really isn't a marker for brain power. That is social jargon used by millions of people
Yes, isn't it sad that there are millions of stupid people manipulating the english language?

I have afew questions:
why does it matter if someone says aiight? That really isn't a marker for brain power. That is social jargon used by millions of people, so it is quite silly to base someones intelligence on weather they use jargon and slang or not.
Also what if they want to drop out and stop conforming to what the school wants them to do; to be perfect cookie cutter students who do their best to live in the american dream. Maybe they are the people who want to change things.. activists.
And finally, why do we have to say the pledge every day? Do they think we're going to forget it? I personally think it is a form of mind control, something pounded into kids minds every day to get them to have blind faith in our country. Ask no questions, find no answers.

"...The Smartest State Award is based on 21 factors that compare the 50 states in more than 400 elementary and secondary education categories. Factors considered include per pupil expenditures, public high school graduation rates, average class size, student reading, writing and math proficiency, and pupil-teacher ratios and..."
Notice how the Northeastern states dominate the top of the list because that's where most of the best magnet schools are.

quote: I'd personally appreciate it if you'd refrain from using commments such as that. You ought to spend some time in a CD classroom, and then see how your opinions change. Saying things like that (and really, taking personal jabs at people in general) does not make you seem more intelligent than them, or a better person, or anything good.
I have nothing against mentally retarded people. I just loathe normal people who choose to be stupid on purpose.

quote: some people in the world might have to drop out of school early to help out their families by getting a job
Then perhaps their families should stop being drunk lazy a**es and get decent jobs to support their family. That should be every parent's top priority! No excuses with the exception of the physically or mentally disabled. quote: and i have you know i am an A honor roll student and i am in the 11th grade
Look at the grammatical errors in that sentence loser. I don't give a rat's a** about your being in 11th grade. Honors isn't even hard. I'm a sophomore student in advanced classes and I've been on the distinction list for the past two years. quote: so don't you go off telling me to go back to special ed little kid
Interesting ; you just admitted that you HAVE been in special ed. I might be younger but clearly you're the one with the english problems. quote: aiight??
Your insight is astonishing. Here you are trying to intimidate me by saying how you are in honors classes and all that crap and you go and end your less than persuading argument with "aiight". Not convincing.

I know a lot of stupid A honor roll kids. They use "words" like this: quote: aiight??
That really irks me. If you're so smart, demonstrate it by speaking/typing coherantly. How ingenius is that?

Yeah. It's sad. If only they had experiences with other kids around the world and how their lives are...I'm not sure if that'll help, but at least they'll know that they're well off, if you compare them to the others.

I don't think kicking a student out of school for skipping class is going to help any third-world children.
Chill out. There are a lot of reasons for which people cut school. I have missed school a few times when I was only somewhat sick. I know people who've cut school more than they should. I don't approve of it, but sometimes, you have to understand the person. Maybe they feel overwhelmed.. and needed a break or some **** like that. But then, maybe you don't understand that because where you're from, school is easy as hell.. or something.

quote: Unless their parents are rich or they sell drugs or whatnot, MOST, not all, high school dropouts do end up in horrible living conditions
Wow. Stereotype much? I'd like to see your research on that. quote: quote: most of the drop outs are a hell of alot smarter than the ones that stay in school
Maybe you people down in Tenessee do things differently but where I live it is usually the stupidest, rowdiest, drunkest, rude kids that drop out.
Actually, no one really knows what "smart" is, there's bunches and bunches of theories about the different intelligences. And yes, there are many reason for dropping out, and many different types of people drop out, but you can't just lump them all together based on your very biased, naive opinions. quote: quote: there are alot of people that i know that didnt graduate from highschool and now they are laywers and doctors and hold the top jobs in local places around here.....
Funny, to my knowledge, lawyers and doctors have to have something called SCHOOLING or else they wouldn't be able to get a DEGREE and LICENSE to do their work legally. And if you think people would actually go to "doctor" that was a highschool dropout and had no college education...forget it, you do the math.
Funny: there is something called the GED that is the equivalent to a high school diploma, that is available to those who never completed high school. Using said GED, one can indeed go to college.
