quote: not all students who drop out of school and skip school are "going to live in trash cans and dumpsters"...
Unless their parents are rich or they sell drugs or whatnot, MOST, not all, high school dropouts do end up in horrible living conditions quote: most of the drop outs are a hell of alot smarter than the ones that stay in school
Maybe you people down in Tenessee do things differently but where I live it is usually the stupidest, rowdiest, drunkest, rude kids that drop out. quote: and they are more likely to succeed in life
What are you basing this on? quote: there are alot of people that i know that didnt graduate from highschool and now they are laywers and doctors and hold the top jobs in local places around here.....
Funny, to my knowledge, lawyers and doctors have to have something called SCHOOLING or else they wouldn't be able to get a DEGREE and LICENSE to do their work legally. And if you think people would actually go to "doctor" that was a highschool dropout and had no college education...forget it, you do the math. quote: I bet I can proove you wrong....!
I'll bet you a nickel because you're worth about that much.

so if we dont feel that we are being bettered by our class then we can cut it? actually I must agree, as someone who cuts weight training to go to the beach to read and who walks out in the middle of class when it gets rediculous. i know if i need to stay... and i have more important things to be doing if i dont... then again i guess most other kids aren't reading or working on scholarship aplications when they skip. oh well, if you skip to much you wont get work done and you'll fail, which is your problem.

___That's just weird then. I've never once heard of any 14, 15 or 16 year olds who have ever been allowed to just drop out unless they don't have parents and make all their own decisions anyway.

"""dropping out at 14 and 15""" ___That's probably not dropping out. They're probably just getting alternate modes of education if they're that young. Dropping out is a little different than getting a new form of schooling or just switching schools.

It's not only the 'damn American kids' you *******. Kids in England, Canada, Britain, Germany, France, ect. skip school too. Stop *****ing about it. We can't force someone to go to school. Kicking someone out is ok, but what happens if they go to a different school? What then? Kick them out in every school? Some people 'straighten up' some don't. You can't just not give them the right to go to school. The law is 16? People over here are dropping out at 14 and 15. By the time school is almost over a class that has 50 kids only has 20... -Sunset

Yeah, but the A kids will also be overworked, unhappy with thier relationships because they spend so much time with work and obligations, and have student loans up to their necks. Peter got it right in Office Space.

I'm not disputing any of that. I'm just saying you can't kick kids out after two truants, because they've got to have some form of schooling. Yes, you can drop out when you're sixteen (I believe you need parent permission around here though) but that's not my point.

They can drop out when they're sixteen...but anyway. If they don't want to go to school, whatever. The law doesn't change many people's minds. They can all work for me someday, and the other people who try hard in school, atleast that's what Travis says. He really thinks he'll be working for me some day haha.

That's because the school and/or county (depending on state) gets government money for you coming to school each day. Therefore, every day you're absent from school, the school and/or county loses money, hence the harsh consequences for missing too much school.

I'll join SSWSS, as long as there's food, and we get t-shirts.

Are you forgetting that by law kids are required to come to school? And if they don't (meaning they're expelled, or wont' come) there has to be a form of schooling made available, be it home schooling, alternative schooling, or finding another school.

yeah thats pretty much my brother. I saw a movie though and really does it matter? maybe they want to work at kmart. maybe they don't want the complication of having a high clas job and having to work hard everyday to get a buck. Maybe what societys offering them isn't what they really want.

american (and kids in other educated countries) dont appreciate schools. They just think in the NOW voice, as in, "HELL YEAH LETS HAVE A GOOD TIME AND SCREW WHAT EVERYONE ELSE SAYS! LETS BE POPULAR!"
They dont think in the FUTURE voice, as in, "Oh well if I skip school I'll get F on my grades and work in Kmart when I'm 30 and the A kids will be driving in a Mercedes in a good house because their work paid off and they can afford those things now" voice.
A lot of teens are just stupid. 'Thank god the Indigo kids are being born to stop this bull****.

I'm definitely one of those students who don't care. I think we should start a society. The Society of the Students who Skip School. We could be the SSSS. Unless the w in "who" should be capitalized, in which case we could be the SSWSS. That'd be cool, too.

Well school can't be the place for everyone, not all the kids are fit for it.I'm not sure if it's always their fault to skip class...
The praepostor of my grade has been in trouble lately for punishing his students. He keeps the monitors on in every classroom to watch what we are doing during classes.Once he found someone listening to mp3 during self-study class and he rushed into the classroom, but the student wouldn't give him the mp3 player,so he threw his bag out of the door. The school principal saw the scene from the monitor and warned him to behave as a teacher.
If I were in his class,I'd skip class as well...
