Do you think America controls the worlds the way Rome did "Way back then?"

I think so, I talk to many people from other country’s and ask them what they hate most about America and most common answer "Bush". I ask them "Why do you care about bush, he’s are president not yours...." Most common answer is, "I just don't like him".

The fast that the world is so concern about who are president is makes a very big statement.

I would bet less then 2% of people in America know the President of the Netherlands.

What do you think?

sure america might be just as powerful today as the roman empire was back then. just another name on the map? how long would it take you to find Rome on a map? the point i am trying to make is that all great empires eventually fall. world powers change. russia fell. germany and france used to be world powers. things change and as weird as it seems now, someday america will no longer be the world power. all we can do is try to make america a great country, and drag out our stay in the "throne" as long as we can.

I'm sure a lot of people know Prince William too, is Britain the modern-day Rome as well?

No, because Prince William isn't in charge of the country. Prime Minister Tony Blair is the one who primarily runs the country. Queen Elizabeth is chief of state, with Prince Charles as the Heir to the throne. After he dies, Prince William comes in.

A few facts about the U.S. military, according to this site: http://observer.guardian.co.uk/waronterrorism/story/0,1373,665108,00.html

*The U.S. spends more on defense than the next 9 biggest defense spending countries combined.

*U.S. accounts for 40% of the world's defense spending.

*"The Department of Defense employs 1.4 million people on active duty. It is the largest employer in the US, with more employees than ExxonMobil, Ford, General Motors and GE combined."

*"The Defense Department buys enough fuel every day to drive a car around the world 13,000 times."

*"The US spends an average of $28,000 on research and development for each member of its armed forces compared to the European average of $7,000."

Admittedly, America is a powerful country. Very much so. But a modern-day Rome? Er, I don't think so. That's giving America a little too much credit. The Roman Empire was the epitome of perfection in government and in a country. Calling America a modern version of Rome would be exaggerating, because I don't think it has the power that Rome did back then.

On another note, just because eveyone knows who George Bush is not a sign of America's power (there are other ways to show that Wink). I'm sure a lot of people know Prince William too, is Britain the modern-day Rome as well?

And wow. Comparing opinions of other countries to a criminal's opinions. Doesn't get much more offensive than that, does it?

The point is that other countries are run by criminals. Why care what they think?

no, korith. i completely understand that what you were going for with that statement. you were trying to prove that the rest of the world knows about what's going on in america, and america doesn't give a damn about the outside world. (or at least that's what i got out of it.)

i just thought you might like to know something about the world. (sorry if that came out really snotty.)

puffin, i'm glad i made your day.

DEFINE "America"
America: a country who bases its survival on a perpetual fight to save the world. a country who is home to many Homo Sapien sapiens of many identities, race, religion, and sexual orientation, and then discriminates against all these Homo Sapien sapiens at different intervals, apologizes, and then moves onto the next group. a country full of Homo Sapien sapiens who choose to bicker at each other to decide who gets limited ownership of a white house. this person, or president, gets full range over its citizens but is closely watched by 2 other branches of government. America is a country that is hated by more countries than ever before. this is due to the perpetual fight to save the world, the need to make people christian, and to place democracy even in the one country that prides itself on being facist. America is the only country with so much dark history that the government hides it from public eyes OR they use it to compare themselves to the countries they are trying to save. Americans, the populace of america, are a very curious race to examine. Most of whom are over weight or too thin. They feed on double cheeseburgers, whoppers, big mac's, and baken double cheeseburgers, biggie fries, milkshakes, and last but not least, DIET cokes with a twist of lemon.

my point...

we are a few romans short of an empire.

icm91, you're wearing down the scrolling wheel on my mouse. Every time I see your name, I know you're just spewing a bunch of liberal garbage that isnt true. So I dont even read them any more. mpk (wow, thats also the name of a very nice gun) thank you for picking out some of my favorites. I enjoy flinging insults at people, especially when they deserve it. Well, I hope you find some more, I love reading those. And Korith, I dont have a short temper, I've never lost my temper on this site before, although this hate for America can irritate me a bit. I am, in real life, a Christian, and I live by the Bible as best I can.
