iamastar, that's correct. It doesn't just take them to be a role model.

quote: If you play a sport professionaly, shouldn't being a role model and getting to play games all the time be most of your payment? What decent reason do we have for paying the atheletes so much?
First off, playing sports is how they make a living. Being a role model just happens to come with the job. Do you think that they wake up in the morning and ask themselves what kind of role model they're going to be or hope that they do well at their job. It doesn't take a famous athelete to be a good role model. If you went to your job, no matter what kind of job it was, and you got paid generously and were looked to as a role model at the same time what would you want more- the money or the fact and knowing that someone looks up to you as a role model? Answer that one honestly and see if you could possibly see what it is like in an atheletes shoes and then make your judgement based on that.

Sports are supposed to be for fun. they have their good points. They keep you healthy, and havinag professional sports can encourage that. But the payment atheletes recieve is outrageous. quote: Have you ever that they could give some of the money they make back to the community like celebrities in Hollywood do?
Ya, but only b/c they need to. When you make that much money you have to give to charity and the community so you can get a tax deduction. If you play a sport professionaly, shouldn't being a role model and getting to play games all the time be most of your payment? What decent reason do we have for paying the atheletes so much?

I think they just meant, it's not that big of a deal. EVeryone has abilities. No one is willing to pay me abundant amounts of money or give me extra praise because I'm good at math. Quit your complaining. My best mile time was a 7:47, and I got sick after it.

My mile time is 5:01, which sucks. I barely trained and I slacked a lot. This year I'm taking my training seriously and I'm a lot more passionate about it, so I'd like to see my time go well under 5 minutes.

Have you ever thought that they don't always spend their money on themselves? Most of them are the kind of people that know where they came from and what they had to do and go through to get were they are. That's probably why most pro-athletes give back.

He. And one kid had just above 4 (like 4:08 or something) and the other had like 4:30 or something like that. "You learn about equality in the classroom but you find out about it in life" - Campus Confidential www.myspace.com/yogore

My time is right at 5:43. I can never seem to get it lower, even as I train my *** off.

We have one ninth grader who can run in four minutes, but he's training for the olympics in skiing. I wish I had that inborn ability. quote: its a sad sad society that pays more money to people who play games for a living than they pay teachers that determine ur college future, doctors that save lives, etc.
There are many more people who can be successful teachers than there are who have the talent to play professional sports. I'm sure if the requirments teachers went sky-rocketing up, and less people passed then teachers would be payed more. quote: by the way when i said running, i meant your mommy driving you there because you cant run...
Enough people are teased because they're over-weight, don't rub it in. Most obese people are so self-concious about their weight already that a comment like that is unneeded.

Yeah, same here, Iceland - I didn't get over the hump (or under the hump..hmmm). Now, I am lucky to finish at 5:45.

Well sports players have worked their ***** off towards their passion. and although its a hell of a lot of money, maybe a little too much, they deserve a nice income.

Two kids at your school can run the mile in 4:00 flat!? Are you serious, or did you mean that their times are in the 4 minute range?

People are naturally competitive and striving for improvement can be acheived through many things. And sure, they're good for your health, but so is walking. quote: So all you obese, sport hating kids, why dont you go running to your local McDonalds and try to gain a few more pounds.
a) Don't assume that everyone who hates sports is overweight. b) Walking is good for you, but you don't need sports to do that. c) Not all overweight peo[ple even like fast-food. I Looooove Sports, they are the best. What do they provide to younger generations? Competivity, a strive for improvement, every sport is good for your health. Without sports we would all be obese kids (like in America). About athletes, athletes are overpaid because they are 1 in a million. How many guys can you find that run a mile in four minutes? The chances are scarce, so you have to pay that unique person. So all you obese, sport hating kids, why dont you go running to your local McDonalds and try to gain a few more pounds. ... by the way when i said running, i meant your mommy driving you there because you cant run...

Have you ever that they could give some of the money they make back to the community like celebrities in Hollywood do? Is that such a crime? But if we do away with sports how is it that people can keep fit if they want.
