yes and no. no, because no matter which way you twist it, your . yes because if the person is in alot of pain, and the person is going to die, and wants it to all end, you should grant that persons last wish.

If euthansia is "ok" then suicide by your own hand must be also. You legalize one, the other must follow.

quote:
Besides (for desperate who are facing real problems), we do have a right to do as we please, am i right? although illegal, we do have a right to euthenasia...this is america, ppl!

But you know what, nowhere in the Constitution do we see a right to death.
Life, liberty and the persuit of happiness, but not death. Hmm...

All in all, I don't think that euthanasia is going to help in a culture where the value of life is quickly eroding.

quote:
personally i htink that if we do it to our pets

Only one problem with comparing pets to people, we euthanise animals without the animals consent (not that they are conscious and capable of giving consent, but simply for the purposes of my point). Animals are not people, (that's a whole other debate which i will gladly go into in another topic). Your not insinuating that we euthanise without consent are you?

i think euthanasia is a very acceptable practice. letting people live when they can't really live, and are in pain is like torture. personally i htink that if we do it to our pets, then we shoudl do it to people as well, its all teh same, even with knowledge of our mortality. i mean the doctor obviously has to have the permission of the family members, but thats just common sense.

I think that it is alright if you have written permission from the patient and his/her family. If you are doing it based on a medical reason to ease the pain of someone who is almost certain to die anyway then that is there choice. But if you do not have permission, a medical reason, or a slim survival chance then there is no reason for a patient to be euthenized.

is suicide ok? all and all, it depends how desperate this person is feeling how many ppl really care... if you just want to die, sure...i mean, who could care if no one did? but if you're just facing some little puny problem and you know ppl care about you...deal w/ it, and get help if you need it. When you're desperate though, and no one cares, help won't do any good.

Besides (for desperate who are facing real problems), we do have a right to do as we please, am i right? although illegal, we do have a right to euthenasia...this is america, ppl!

I noticed something. In a chatroom where we were discussing this, people who think that euthanasia is morally wrong and that we are "playing god" seem to be the same people who are all pro for test tube grown babies. When I asked how could this be, they said," Because growing a baby creates life, doesn't destroy it...we have no right to take the life of another person." Ummm...we you are creating babies in petris dishes, I call that playing God too. And the few who do practice Euthanasia follow guidelines such as legal documents with the patient's signature who wants to die, interview and counseling seession, and a term of withdrawal if they want.

Mentally ill and mentally challenged people are generally not capable of giving informed consent.

trust me, the doctors do it b/c the person is going to die, anyway, or the fact that theyre just very old and suffering from there old age. for the ppl who are "crazy", they just make them go thru hell in mental assylums and trips to the shrink's office Smile

however, why dont they do it for the mentally challenged and mentally ill????

I guess it's ok, but are the people letting the docters kill them because their like crazy, or are they sick and going to die soon anyways?

I don't think so. When it's your time to die, you will die. Yet, if the person is a vegetable on life support, I think it's okay for them to turn it off with the patient's consent.

euthenasia is nice for any dying, terminally-ill, or elderly patient. as we put an ill animal to sleep, humans have a right to just be "put to sleep" in one of these cases.

like the burger guy said. and i think it'd b ok if the patient was like... close to dying anyway. if the dr says there's no chance of them living and they dont believe they will either then its sortof putting them out of pain instead of making them go thru a long painful . its their choice.

I think, in theory, it's ok, but I think there should be some sort of court process or case review or something that you'd have to go through in order to get legal approval... otherwise, there'd be too big a risk of an actual murder taking place.
