Has anyone ever seen the naked man on the Camel label? wierd...Subliminal messages obviously add alout to a product being sold...personally I don't think a naked man with a 1/2 bone in a camel's shoulder is very sexy..

First off let me say that I'm an ex-smoker and I’m very happy I kicked my habit. But I still believe that they should be able to advertise; to not let them would be hypocritical in many areas. But I believe smoking should be HEAVILY taxed because ultimately we will be paying some of the medical bills of some smokers.

quote: Actually, I was thinking that DrStrangelove was half being sarcastic. I mean, tobacco products are essentially bad for you; so is rap music. I'd say you should ban one because it causes lung cancer (or mouth cancer, or whatever tobacco product you're thinking of) and the other because it's hard on the ears and makes you stupid.
And please, learn to spell "tobacco" correctly.
I know he was being sarcastic, but he also made me think about the implications of banning tobacco advertisements.

What quote: Should Rap Music Advertising be banned?
That's what I was thinking. A lot of rap (gangsta rap) promotes drugs, prostitution, gangs, etc. All of that is illegal, and is a much more serious problem at this point for many people than smoking. To go even further, when you start banning things like drugs or drug advertising, at what point do you stop? Furthermore, how do you enforce laws like that without putting a serious strain on the prison system and gradually moving towards a de-facto totalitarian state?

As long as I don't have to deal with second hand smoke, I don't have a problem with people smoking or advertising smoking. If people want to go buy ciggerettes, then they should be allowed to, provided that they know that ciggerettes cause various health problems and have all sorts of horrible ingredients in them (which they do). And anyway, tobacco was one of the things that allowed this country and the Native Americans to exist, let's not try to stamp it out.
