What do you think about the rainforests decreasing? How can we stop people from chopping them down and endangering the animals in them?

i read somewhere that everyday the rainforest as big as 10 football feilds is being destroyed..
i mean the only way is to reduce the tree logging and stuff cause these kind of things can never be stopped and only the degree can be lowered..
i feel that people should be made more aware of the ill-effects and consequences they are going to face once there are no forests left on earth..
the govts of the countries should set strict, unbendable rules and the they should discontinue the use of the road that penmagic told us about..
socrates has a very valid point.......

Somweher I read that it's possible to create more jobs by efficiently using the rainforests' resources than by cutting them down for farms. Makes sense; you can get a lot more food, medicine, etc from a smaller patch of forest than it takes to grow beef, meaning more people employed. McDonald's now buys only domestically farmed beef b/c there was so much pressure on them from enviros in the late 80's-early 90's. That's also why they use cardboard containers instead of styrofoam. So yes, changes can be made.

Hey, it's true, ppl are stupid and they are really immoral too. Hey, we're not perfect. But I don't think that this destroying environment thing will ever stop. I don't like seeing the government being destroyed and I'm on your side FrozenRainforest, but as long as there are ppl who love cars and all the other new technology that would help destroy teh environment, our world is as helpless like a bunny in the middle of a busy highway. *Sigh* We should start focusing on intergalactic exploration. Now that could help us greatly, I think. Confused

The destruction of the Amazon rainforest in particular, is mostly down to poverty in South America: Loggers cut down the trees because it is simply the most profitable way of living out there.

It saddens me deeply and I feel helpless in the face of it, because I can't see any solution to the problem other than a complete economic change in Brazil. The mistake there was made decades ago when people first decided to build a road into the rainforest, thinking that farming would be better there (in fact farming there is extremely unprofitable as after a year without trees the soil loses all nutrients, this means more deforestation as farmers move to new sites 'slash and burn' farming etc).

People are not inherantly stupid, we are as a species selfish though, and this is what it comes down to really.

i think ppl should just plant stuff all in the same spot, and not cut down the rainforest. they should think about it, care for the trees and the animals!!!!

Will you people please stop saying "people are stupid!" Have a little more hope than that! People are not intrinsically immoral! It's just the conservative-anti-entirronment societal cultural thing that's against the environment! If people are intrinsically stupid, then what does that make all of you? Stupid? Or "exceptions to the rule?" People RULE just like all the other animals do!

I truly don't understand why more religious people aren't for the environment. With their strong morals and ideology, you think they'd be all about Conservation and such.
I suppose the Christian/Islamic/Judaic viewpoint would be, "God gave us the Earth to use, so we can continue living, and we use it to do just that." I think they're exactly right. But I have this to say:

This beautiful planet Earth truly is a gift from God. We SHOULD respect it more, and show our respect for this gift by taking care of it. It's near the holidays, so consider this: If a friend gives you a very expensive gift, and you just absolutely trash it; (I mean seriously beat the living crap out of it,) what does that say about your respect for the gift? What about your respect for the person? This "gift from God" was not meant to be used to make ourselves more powerful. Destroying creatures that God created and developing things like nuclear weapons (which were made only to try and make our nation endlessly powerful) only makes us look more stupid and disrespectful in the eyes of the father.

Now whether you're Christian, Jew, Muslim, or whatever; you believe God made the world, and Man and Animals to inhabit it. When we start playing God in thinking we can change his beautiful creation to make it better than he did (for our own purposes), is where we show our severe intellectual inferiority.

Cutting down the rainforests is wrong. People are a bunch of greedey slobes who care nothing about anything except their filthy money and technology. We get more and more greedy by the day. Kill this kill that. People such as my parents hate deer and want to kill them all. This is wrong. Animals are just trying to live, and many times we end their lives because of our own selvish pride. Cutting down the rainforests isent the only problem. Water pollution is another major thing. Why dont we continue to dump wastein out rivers, oceans, and lakes. Then see what happens to life on earth. All of the aquatic plants will die because of the lake of sunlight, therfore they cannot do photosynthesis.

We must stop doing this. People are idiots. Dont you see you fools? By not helping the earth and by destroying it,you are destroying yourselves.

Sharpen up and use your brain.

I don't want to look at this in a pessimistic and cynical way. There is no intrinsic human desire to kill things and chop down trees. Rather, it's a cultural thing - society wants to be fruitful and multiply and smoosh the environment. I think that humans are just as capable of saving the environment as they are of destroying it - I'm not gonna sit in a hole and watch the world be destroyed before my eyes, I'm gonna do something about it.

You can't stop them. Well, if you formed a human chain around each and every rainforest, then maybe you could...maybe, but I don't know. The point is that people are greedy and want all the consumer goods they can possible have, regardless of who or what it destroyed. As long as they can have their teak wood from Pier 1 and their slave labor, over priced clothes from just about everywhere else, their fattening "food" from McDonalds, they're happy.

Sorry to break it to you.
