Did you realize Joey, that christmas was originally a Pagan holiday?!?!? Pagan's celebrated how the tree was the only thing that stayed alive, nature wise, during winter. They put lights on the tree, candles, since there was less sun and they didn't have electricity back then. Those things are traditions that we have today that came from PAGAN beliefs. quote: If you don't like that, then DON'T celebrate our sacred holiday.
It's not JUST a christian holiday. A lot of people celebrate Christmas and its sacred to them also. Just because the first 6 letters spell Christ doesn't mean that other people can't celebrate it if they don't believe in Christ. Come down from your Christian throne and let people live there own lives!! quote: Before long, Santa Claus will suffer the wrath of PC - since, of course, his name is Saint Nicholas.
It's incredible to see how much ignorance and self-centered brain cell-deficient robots plague this country.
Santa Claus is NOT Saint Nicholas. They are two completly different people/characters. St. Nicholas day is on Dec. 6th. (He comes and puts candy in childrens' shoes) Santa Claus comes on Christmas and puts presents under the tree and in stockings. Now who's ignorant!?! quote: People pick and choose what they want to hear or want to believe.
And were any different then you and your bible? ~Jade

Actually, there is a way to find out the exact day/time period Jesus was born on, but it won't be found in an English Bible.
And it's nice that we all have this agreement (for now) that Christmas, pagan rituals or not, was based, primarily, on a Christian God and on a Christian God's birth.
So these political correct attempts to banish nativity scenes from governmental property to be more "sensitive" to another religion is completely ridiculous.
Christmas derives from the first six letters - and it should be stressed day in and day out for those PC diversity pushers who don't seem to get it.
I'm tired of hearing about how radio stations can't "choose this song because" it mentions Christ.
I'm sick of hearing about how Christmas favors one religion over another ...
...it doesn't favor ANYTHING! Jesus Christ is God to millions of people. If you don't like that, then DON'T celebrate our sacred holiday.
You wouldn't see me celebrating "Kwanzaa" and then complaining that the symbols are "offending" me.
This PCness is sickening.
Before long, Santa Claus will suffer the wrath of PC - since, of course, his name is Saint Nicholas.
It's incredible to see how much ignorance and self-centered brain cell-deficient robots plague this country.
It's nothing more than shopping cart mentality that plagues this country.
People pick and choose what they want to hear or want to believe.
But you can't deny facts, though many PCers do. You cannot refute the fact Christmas, again, paganism aside, derives from a Christian event.
So what's the fuss about this nativity scene deal? It's all a bunch of whiney-bag political correct liberals who want to bar anything resembling Christianity from all aspects of our life.
It's sick.
And YouthNOISE should do a better job of trying to promote this Christian event without being so damn PC all the time.

Actually, a lot of Christian holidays came from Pagan holidays because the Church wanted to bring more people into the religion. The then Pagans didn't want to join a religion that was just boring rituals and stuff, so the Church established the Christmas holidays to coinside with the ancient holidays to show it was also a fun(?) religion. My mom's side of the family are extremely strict Catholics and my dad's side are all Irish druids (pagans). I think you can imagine how our family get togethers go happy holidays, what ever ya celebrate love and peace in the middle east, Molly

Holidays like Christmas and Easter coincide with earlier Pagan holidays for a simple reason. Celebrating Christs birthday or death/resurrection was illegal. You would get murdered for it and they had disgusting and inhumane ways of doing that back then. So the Christians decorated pine trees with apples to remind themselves of Adam and Eve and not to give into the temptation of the debauchery, etc. that went on during the Pagan holidays. They celebrated Christmas when they could be discreet about it and not get themselves killed, same for Easter. They didn't take part in the sin they abstained from it and taking refuge in their Redeemer is how they did it. If you're wondering how I know this, watch the History Channel this Christmas season.

Or the dates and festivities were (i.e. Rabbits, eggs, trees, etc.). Christains would still want to celebrate the birth and death, but it would likely be in different ways. A good site on this is from the 'Churches of God' site: Origins of Christmas (X-mas) and Easter

Christmas is where it is not randomly, but as a simple evolved extesion of earlier pagan rites that occur at around December 25 celebrating the return of the sun, by which I mean the fact that the sun is starting to rise earlier and earlier at that time.
This coincides with the Christian belief in Jesus as a divine, welcoming, sun-like light into the world.
Many other Christian holidays are at their positioning because of extensions of pagan holidays. Easter, for example, does not just coincidentally fit in with pagan holidays celebrating the return of spring.

Yeah, ppl. do use the holidays as a way to make money. I just hope no one takes offense to what I believe and to what I am saying. This further has to do with my religion, I am studying to become a Jehovah's Witness and we believe holidays shouldn't be celebrated. Satan (the devil) just makes a bunch of holidays seem fun but really ppl. who celebrate are playing into his political system of things. Thanks for replying! Bye. ~Kameela

Please, first of all, tell me there's no such thing as a chocolate candy cane - ew. Ha, well, chocolate, you've brought up a very good point; Holidays are real good ways to make money - in fact, I believe that's all holidays are about nowadays. Notice how Christmas season starts the day right after Haloween? Anyway, yeah, I'd have my doubts as to being able to pinpoint the exact date of Christ's birth - not saying we couldn't find out, but Dec. 25? Pah. Anyway, being in a festive mood, willing to give, love... that should be all year long
