I just found a really awesome website for all you people out there that are big on animal rights. The website's called furisnotfabric.comand it's filled with lots of cool information. Basically the site is a campaign started by a designer to get fur out of fashion and I think it's a totally great idea. Be sure and check it out!

about cutting a pig's throat and ripping the corpse apart just so we can eat it when we have plenty of healthier foods growing (notice the word growing) on farmlands. Meat should be used only in emergencies.

Hey people,my dad is a trapper and I can vouch that he uses pretty humain methods. Those trapers that check their lines frequently and take them dawn in the summer(like my dad) and who don't trap in areas they know are stressed,bc of fire is what i'm talking about,(like my dad) have my full support, duh, like I'm going to say anything else! Ok, I admit it's kinda nasty watching him skin the animals, and some of them stink(I'm getting grusome arn't I ) but I have NEVER seen hin skin an animal alive and, you know, that would be really hard to do. And ,DrStrangeglove, you are brilliant did you know that? BRILLIANT!! I'm all against animal cruelty but you know these animals die pretty fast and the farmed ones are treated pretty well. Oh,VEGAnQueen some trappers, my dad at least ,do have uses for the carcasses of these animals. Besides dog food and bait for the other traps he was also sending the skulls in to some scientist for the BLM,no idea what he wanted them for but he did want them.

I would honestly admit also that I don't want animals to be killed for any reason. However, it doesn't work that way. Yea, I also think they are equal to humans but no one really cares about that either.
So I decided to just come up with something that I think agrees with both sides
I'm just asking not to kill animals for no use at all but just to kill them, like for example hunting for fun. Or just to kill them to make a style out of them. If there's no real use for an animal killing other than it looks good and/or it's just for fun then I think that it shouldn't be like that. However, if the killing of an animal is put into good use (Example: Food) then go ahead.
Also, we should be open to finding new ways to make things work other than using animals to make things work. Ex: Using something else to make lipstick other than what Gem said that they use.
That's all I'm asking!!!!!!!
Bye n Have a nice day

I just think this: we have cotton, we get wool, so why not breed animals for things other than fur and leather so when they die naturally we could use that if need be? I just don't like killing n e thing.

I don't support wearing fur but I won't kill, hurt or degrade anybody for wearing it. I won't wear it because I get goose skin when it touches me and I absolutely HATE how my parents adore leather couches and leather interior in their cars. Yes, it's nice and plush and 'posh' but I'm not into it. It's gross. It's disgusting. I just personally don't like it, no matter how much good treatment they are given. I wouldn't want anybody sitting on my mother's skin and she's treated fairly darn good!

Do any of you honestly know just how well those animals for being treated? Think about it logically. What makes nice fur? A flea infested stressed out animal suffering from malnutrition? Right... Those animals are pampered and made to be so comfortable. They are even fed the best food to get the most attractive coat possible. They are not huddled together in the corner covered in their own crap. When animals stress they lose fur, and a bald coat isn’t too appealing.
Really try to think about things realistically next time.

I'm sure you've used products that have been made possible by the killing of innocent animals even if you ARE a vegetarian (e.g. lipstick is made from fish scales, roaches, etc., and Jello contains animal by-products; there are many more examples I can provide if you'd like...). And you can't trust PETA for reliable information. They lie, use violent, unnecessary tactics to get their point across, etc.). But for the record, I don't support people wearing fur.

Yeah I went to the link, it's nothing more than bias and propaganda. In short, they LIE to you.

quote: Fur is definately not fabric, and should never be made so. Thousands of animals, like chinchillas, ferrets, minks, foxes, etc etc are killed for their fur, it is utterly disgusting. So many animals are inbred and raised in the most poor of conditions, where even cannibalism occurs in their emaciated state... These animals go insane, are inbred for color selection, are starved, are not treated for any illness, etc. When it is finally time for them to die, they either get a broken neck and thrown into a pile among other writhing animals, or are anally electrocuted. Don't believe me~? Watch it at PeTA tv...
First, will someone tell these people that PETA is 90% propaganda? It seems to be the primary, if not sole, source for most hardcore animal rights people. Second, inbreeding has been used for thousands of years as a way to bring out desired traits in livestock. Genetic diseases rarely crop up in the first few generations. It's the same with humans, but our taboo is mostly for moral and cultural reasons, but that's a whole other can of worms. Third, I don't find it disgusting at all. The simple fact that the vasy majority of animals are killed cleanly is enough for me. I guess i'm a bit of a sociopath, but if the animal we're killing isn't near equal to us in intelligence and culture, then they're just another resource to be used. Used, conservatively and properly, but used nonetheless. Fourth, fab·ric fbrk) n. A cloth produced especially by knitting, weaving, or felting fibers. The texture or quality of such cloth. Wow, well i guess it's not fabric after all. I hate false puns. Fur is fur, leather is leather, both are skins, and i have no problem with wearing any of them.

Fur might not be fabric but it can sure be made into it.
You people **** me right off. Dont you realize that if we didnt use animals for things we would have to develop it all synthetically which will in turn destroy the enviornment and then kill WILD animals instead of ones we raise for this purpose?

quote: Unlike fur, the flesh from the animal which the leather jacket is made, is eaten. Not wasted. Since there isn't a demand for mink, lynx, chinchilla flesh in America; animals trapped for fur are just killed for satisfying our luxuries. They aren't even used for satisyfing our basic, physiological needs(hunger).
However, A death is a death is it not? You've made your opinions on meat consumption clear. Also, where the hell do you think hot dog meat comes from?!? But seriously, so what if the meat is wasted? Is the amount of the animals body used proportional to the moral signifigance of it's death? Of course as you know i think killing animal and using their flesh is downright peachy. So i don't see a problem here. Yeah it would be nice if it was put to good use, but what the heck. I would check up on that, because there's a lost profit there. But I also saw somethign interesting lately. Discover magazine ran an article desribing a new yet proven process to turn organic material (read: farm and animal waste/flesh) into petroleum at a profit. So lets assume this animal waste is able to go to good use in the future providing heat and power. Does it make fur equal to leather then? quote: to me, its better than kiling animals. killing them is murder in my eyes, and thats that
Ah, so what your saying is that your closing your mind to some facts your not aware of and choosing to beleive one type of propaganda over another. Congradtulations, your average. quote: hon, who decided that they were inferior to us? for all we know, they could be smarter, quicker, and all around better than us. we dont kno that.
We have this debate going in "testing on animals" But you want us to beleive and make concrete moral descions on a bunch of completely unproven "what if's?", when all the evidence points to the opposite?

quote: First of all, there is pleather, and I believe there is something called PVC, which is being widely used as a leather alternative by a lot of fashion designers (I read this in a fashion magazine). And faux fur is also made from synthetic fibers and such.
Oh joy, lets go into all the nice carcinogens and other toxic materials used to make these. quote: My view on all of this is that wearing another creatures skin is cruel and indecent, a lot of these animals are skinned alive, how would you feel if your friend was killed for their skin?
Human skin probably isn't worth it, it doesn't have any properties that would make it useful. Why exactly is wearing another creatures skin indecent? The only reason we'd have an aversion to wearing human skin is taboo. No other reason that is, unless we're killing humans specifically for skin. That of course is murder. The reason we can do it to animals is simply, because they are animals, lower than humans. Of course, this another debate, probably best suited for the "testing on animals" topic.
