when a president visits troops overseas, it is always a HUGE morale booster for the troops. So what if it was a publicity stunt...most troops love their president, and were delighted when he went and visited Iraq. When you talk to a Marine, they don't say "We Shouldn't be Here." I was in California a few months ago and one of those anti freedom protestors had set up a table selling buttons and pins and the sort. There was a piece of paper that supposedly had real quotes of American Troops opposed to the war. There were no sources of course, because this was largely if not entirely made up. Any soldier who says something bad about their country or president has to deal with the other soldiers, and that's usually not to pleasant.

quote: Bush probably got off that plane for no more than 10 minutes
I heard he was on the ground for around two hours... not sure what the precise time is.

Anyone who thinks that Bush is WONDERFUL for visiting the troops need a reality check. Bush flew to Iraq on air force one and many other jets surrounding him. That plane was probably equipped with more ammunition than the troops had! Bush probably got off that plane for no more than 10 minutes, which was enough time to take some wonderfully posed pictures! Why would he need to bring pictures here, why not just leave them with the troops. Good deeds can be done without advertising them! So ofcourse it was a publicity stunt! Oh well thats our "Dubya"

I think that having Clinton or Gore as a president would be horrible (so would having Chaney as pres.). I don't understand what's so wrong about him going to Iraq to have Thanksgiving with the troops. Evy

P.S. I think him visiting the troops was a nice gesture, but probably a publicity stunt. Everything any politician does or says seems to be a publicity stunt these days, so that's not very unusual.

I don't know whether or not he is an idiot. But I do think he's a bad president. If he's an idiot then he has more of an excuse.

His visiting the troops has struck me as purely political - a publicity stunt.

Bush was my uncle's boss when my he [my uncle] worked for the Rangers. This is what he told me:
1) Bush isn't as dumb as he seems.
2) Bush gives everyone he knows a nickname.
3) Something else...I don't remember.

I don't think that Bush is a complete idiot just for visiting the troops. I actually think that it was a good thing to do for them. I don't think, however that it was very safe. He could easily have been killed.

No, I don't think he is an idiot. It was Thanksgiving, so why should he go visit the troops that have been there so long? He got back saftly, so no thank goodness, he didn't get shot. I think it was a nice gesture. If I was the Pres. or if I could go, I would too. I could go see my brother. -Sunset
