3,000 people have DIED from the heat in France alone, heat that is normal summer highs in the south, but apparently fatal to our northern friends. It's horrible. And it's not just France, but almost all of Europe. Problem: Unatural Highs in a land of no air conditioners. They've never been necessary before but they're in desperate need of something now. Solution: Send air conditioners; the kind you can put into a window. i know they can harm the ozone but just until they can find something better, or the wave finally hits shore (or in this case the sea because this a wave on the land 8-?) This is SERIOUS people. If that heat wave doesn't let up soon it'll wipe out almost all of Europe's population! I'll take any ideas.
who ever controls the weather you can't take japan or naoko!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is horrible I'll send a fan 'cause thats the best I can do....think it'll help? viva la france.... think it will hit the japs?
55% of French citizens wanted America to lose the war. France and the US are not allies. Who cares if they all burn themselves up? They didn't help us, so screw em.
i read somewhere the figure is around 11,000 dead (by now i guess). ouch. i don't know how we could help them though. hopefully they'll just be able to learn from this year and prepare for next year.
My dad reacently gave me a book filled with rediculic stories. They're all true and reaserched, by a teacher. (Lit, I think). One of the stories was about a guy, about a hundred years back, who found out how to 'create rain'. He found a cemical composition that caused rain to fall! I'm serious here. He was once requested to fill a dam near San Fransisco (please excuse my horrible spelling.) He caused it to rain for like, 6 months sraight! He managed to fill the dam, but sense there was no writen contract, the city didn't have to pay him the agreed price.
Poor guy, I almost feel sorry. Unforcinatly, when he died, he took his rain making secrit to the grave. This is a true story, and to quote the authur, "Useful, useless? You decide."
icm, you live in Virginia! I know its technically a southern state but its not all that far south. The climate there is basically the same as where I live in Maryland.
quote: for real the heat index is 125. it is hott as hell over here in arkansas. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
?
Yeah...heat index is higher, but I wasn't talking about the heat index. Okay, what I've been trying to say is that, when you are in a place that is used to 80 degree summers, it's gonna be a little shocking when suddenly you have 110 degrees steady for two and a half weeks. You would not be prepared. Add to this that there has been no rain. Now, the remaining water is taken even quicker by the heat, since the heat not only affects the people, but the crops and animals because they also need extra water. Now the grass is dead and fires burn uncontrollably...and need to be put out with MORE WATER.
Oh yeah, and about the "we get blizzards in the south", I've known people from Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, and Florida who have all said things like "Wow, we never get winters anywhere even close to this, we don't even get snow!!!" when they came up here...
But anyway, you are right, there is really nothing we could do. It's not very practical for us to send air conditioners to them, sending money would be a better idea, but that can't stop a heatwave or cause rain to fall anyway, so it's rather pointless. It's not like 5,000 people is that many anyway (out of 60 mil), and it's mostly old people the heat triggers things in anyway.
quote: The South is used to being "hot", so you are prepared for it. But it is not 110 degrees (actual 110 degrees, not "It feels like it's 110 degrees) everyday for two weeks there.
no ice, it's been 110 degrees here. for real the heat index is 125. it is hott as hell over here in arkansas. i was out last night at 11 o clock at NIGHT and it was 100 degrees on all the little bank signs. It is soo hott. And North Carolina is like 87 right now, when I go visit I'll have to bring my parka......
But also about snowing, this place is messed up. It's hott as hell in the summer and then cold in the winter. Last year it was like below 0 and there were alot of snow storms. Ah!! this is stupid.
ok done with rant.
and the bad thing about it is, i have to walk home!! my mom has my car so i have to ride the bus, and my bus stop is 1/4 a mile away from my house!! ahhhhhhhh!!
Go up to the North Pole with a fleet of big-*ss helicopters... Have 'em scoop up a few pieces of iceberg and ship them to France. Then they can all feed off it like it's one big popsicle.
Awwwwww..... ice..... foxy and i still love france.... we just don't see why we should send help.... what could we do? and that whole minnessota snow thing.... we have blizzards in the south too... wasn't it '96....wasn't that the year of the big blizzard...hmmm.... i forget... but we were out of school for 2 weeks... and only about 30 people in the south died from that blizzard... 2 feet of snow.... kinda fun.....Besides, in the south we drive SUV'S.... we won't get traped in the snow.... we southerners are tough as nails....well... most of us.
quote: 'Have they ever heard of drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day? & buying a fan or air conditionor?
They probably are drinking water. But that's not gonna do much against all that much against the heat. They've banned watering gardens and pools and stuff, thet've even stopped some farmers from watering their crops, and a lot of animals are dying because the grass is dead. There is an extreme water shortage. And they don't have air conditioners because they don't ever normally need them, so it's a little difficult to just suddenly come up with 15 million air conditioners in a country that doesn't even use them.
'Have they ever heard of drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day? & buying a fan or air conditionor? I know 3,000 is a LOT but... they never cared when we had terroist attacks & wars? No! So why should we? & we can't do very much about it! Send all of those people air conditioners? That's imposible... '
im sorry man but thats really inconsiderate. if the WHOLE world used that, the eye-for-an-eye principle, we'd all be blind AND missing limbs by now. and yes, 3000 is a lot, so why do you want to hold back and not help them? yes, the french are a bit stupid at times, but thats not reason to not treat them like human beings now. yes, we mite not be able to get EVERY0NE air conditioners, but if we got together with other nations, maybe we could. and as for drinking 6-8 glasses of water per day, i bet theyre already doing that; theyre not THAT stupid, i hope. and i dont think it would help way great a deal also becuz its been up to 130 degrees over there. put yourself in their place; would you want help, or not? thats not too hard a question now.
