Agnostic or something like it among many many other reasons, there are other things i'd rather do than sit at church on Sunday morning listening to someone tell me what i should believe and think and besides, why can't i pray at home? Why does it matter? Why would God care if i was in a church believing in him or in my house?

Hey that is soo cool!! I'm barely in year 1 for my confirmation!! Does anyone here go to confirmation or did they get confirmed already? Confirmation is fun! I at first didn't want to go, but then I started to like it, and I'm starting to make new friends. Well, the point here is to learn more about God and to grow spiritually to love and serve Him. Woo Hoo!! Later!

Well, that would be pretty much all of them, at one time or another. Well, maybe not the religion itself, but it's followers and holy (wo)men. Love, Jen.

thanks Rito QUOTE - "i was raised catholic, but i dont believe in most of its religion. i think that all of the religons are correct in some sort of way, except those that promote violence. i think that there is some sort of divine being, sort of a combonation of God, Allah, and Yahweh (that how you spell it?). i think that the events described in the bible/torah/whatever are metaphorical. that kinda makes me a deist i guess." To: Sunshinehippiegirl11 Actually, God, Yahweh, and Allah are the same ... You see the Christian and Jewish community both believe in the books of the "Old Testament" as Christians call it, or "Tanakh" as the Jewish call it. These contain the same books of scripture (unless you own a Catholic bible [which has extra books that are considered holy (by the Jewish & Christian people), but not out and out scripture, because they aren't historical. However, Christians believe that the Messiah or Yeshua has already come [and follow the teachings of Jesus who we believe to be the Messiah], while the Jewish community is still waiting for the Messiah. The Muslim community also worships God, but does not hold to the same scripture as the Jewish and Christian community. You see we (all 3 faiths) agree up to the part about Abraham. The Jewish & Christian community follow the teachings of Abraham and his son Isaac and so on and so on... whereas the Muslim faith believes in the teachings of Abraham, but then follows the teachings of his other son Ishmeal and his lineage, which is (to state the obvious) different than that of Isaac. So you see we have the same basis, but break off after a certain point, do to differences in Scripture or acceptance of Jesus as Messiah. P.S. - In case you wanted to know... I am Catholic, but I usually call myself Christian, because that encompasses Catholics.

Coffeebean, despite the huge difference between Gods and Donuts, it was a good way of explaining something. One of the better metaphors I've heard.

But people have never started wars over Krispy Kremes... "You there, what donut reigns supreme over all?" "Well, uh... I'm rather partial to custard donuts myself." "INSOLENT HEATHEN, KRISPY KREME IS THE ONE TRUE DONUT!" *war ensues* The comparison just doesn't quite seem valid to me.

To Sudha - I understand your comments about religion being a very personal and private matter ... in Christianity it is taught that we are supposed to have a personal relationship with our God, but we are also taught to share His good news with others. I know that some people feel like Christians are trying to force them to convert, but I'm not about forcing conversion (Jesus taught against such forced conversions). I merely feel that it is my duty to share the joy God has given me with others. I guess it's kind of like donuts ... [I do have a point] ... If you & your friends all by donuts from the same supermarket and the donuts are good, but one day you go to Krispy Kreme (or something like that) and you taste their donuts and they are way better than any donut you've ever had... you'd probably tell your friends that they should all go to Krispy Kreme to buy their donuts ... maybe you'd get so excited that you'd buy extra donuts and share them with your friends. So it's like that except I am just asking people to try God... not Krisy Kreme... you get it? You are entitled to speak your mind and I admire your honesty, and I'm not trying to force my beliefs on you or anyone else. I just want to share what I know, and learn from others. To whoever is reading - I know several of you have said that you don't count the Bible as an accurate work, and I understand that from a religious standpoint you may not agree with it, but much of the Bible has been proven to be true both scientifically & historically. However, I will admit there are minuscule differences among the gospels ... still you must remember that there are far more discrepancies in the history books we use in school, and most people still refer to them as indisputable fact. FYI - If you are looking for the most historically accurate of the gospels it would be Luke (or so I've read from historians written opinions).

quote: The miracles He performed had nothing to do with magic.
i'm starting to understand why billy gets so frusturated with these religion posts (which seem to be taking over "the global community" board). Don't say he performed miracles. you can't find one historian who says that there is no doubt in their mind jesus performed miracles. i even called up a pastor at a local presbyterian church and asked him if he was 100% positive that jesus performed these miracles. he said "we as christians believe what is written in the bible...i honestly cannot tell you if the bible is completely accurate even though my faith believes it to be true". as i have stated before, don't quote the bible as being accurate. it isn't. I also find it ironic that there are so many posts on religion in a board that is for global problems, although so many of the religious type on this board insist that religion ISNT the problem. -conservakid

quote: you don't believe that Jesus performed miracles... is that what you mean? Do you think he is the Messiah?
Jesus didn't do anything magic(ie - miracles), and he was just a guy. Please keep in mind the people back then didn't have a lot to believe in, all it took was someone with half a brain. Even today 2,000 years later we have people who fall for the stupidest of ideals, is it so hard to believe so many would believe back then?
