Who owns a gun(s)? For or against gun ownership? 2nd Amendment allow it? etc.
Come on, you know the drill.

He got it during a trip to Europe.
Home Protection: Get a pump shotgun. The pumping noise is usually enough to scare away anyone who does not want to get shot. Otherwise, get some earplugs and a few blanks and some rubber bullets for it.

exactly! most criminals are there to score some money and get in and get out. Hence why most crimes happen while you are not home. Now if a criminal is braizen enough to enter your house while you're home, rest assured I will defend myself. As for introducing a weapon into a volitile situation, it is already volitile with or without a weapon. If you have a true predator in your house....his job will be to take control over you or even kill you. If it wern't for stupid laws I would never have to introduce a weapon...I have the means to shoot through walls and floors....but that isn't legal. Who would have thought it would be against the law to defend you and your family against someone breaking into your house to take your stuff and possibly do harm to you....??

Odds are that assialant isn't going to want to get his *** shot off by someone who knows the layout of the house (if it is a home attack) far better than he, and my be more proficient in the use of firearms. Most criminals are rather cowardly, and not willing to get into a fight, even if armed. However, some are truly deranged, and would do you harm equally whether of not you had a weapon. (Or at least try to-you can always de-rectimify them-see first line)>

Wouldn't introducing a gun into a deadly situation where there is an armed assialint in the house merely be inflammatory and make the assasilant more likely to use his own firearm?

Actually, it's not like we'll ever use them on an intruder. I feel safe because of my dog more than anything.
SOMEONE GETS IT!!! I love you

Not everyone wants a firearm for protection. I want one for target shooting. Others want them for commiting crimes. I have a friend who "acquired" a post ban mp5a1. That post ban was brought over from Europe, having a full automatic, 3 round burts, single shot and safe trigger groupings. It is illegal, and he wants to get rid of it. There is no way in hell that he is going to turn it in...that would be like hand-cuffing himself and walking to prison. Point: You can always find a gun, you just have to do a little looking. Damn liberals, how dare they not allow a 8 year old to purcahse an FN-Minimi for his birthday?!?!

Holy crap. People still believe this ****?: quote: your 22X more likely to kill yourself, or an innocent bystander with your gun, then you are to kill an intruder.
This has been proven a misleading statistic so many times, I'm actually losing my ability to laugh when someone uses it (or it's original form, the 43:1 we've all heard about. Number one-The study included suicides, which can hardly be considered preventable, much less with laws. And, suicides accounted for (are you ready?) over 80% of the deaths in the statistic. Som lets see-we're down to about 5:1 with the odds of a firearm killing a bystander compared to an assailant-but wait! That number goes down even more! You see, the researchers only took into account cases where the attacker was actually killed, and, this is very rare. Extremely commonly (over two million times a year i the States alone) a weapon is simply brandished, or fired into the air in defense-and this usually works. It is a scarce occurance when an attacker is killed outright. So, now we're way into the firearms advantage side. (I don't know the exact number-someone get a calculator and work it out). So, Mr 2069, please don't be so ignorant in the future.

Just thought I'd like to point out, your 22X more likely to kill yourself, or an innocent bystander with your gun, then you are to kill an intruder. And, who knows? Maybe that figure is exagerated, maybe its "only" 17X, or 9X. Isn't that still an phenomenolly ridiculous ratio?

quote: What about small but loud guns?
I think I'm getting one of those.
Look for a Colt Detective Special. It is a revolver with a really short barrel. Great for concealment, has the stopping power, and will be very very loud. "Supressor" is the proper term. And so is "magazine" instead of clip. (Unless you are referring to a weapon that uses bullet clips (think Kar 98). My two .22s both use magazines.
