Bats are basically my size so it's a bit hard to pick up a bat without falling over to the side. So I rather pick a weapon that is smaller than me and not my size. So yea, I would get a gun too.
However, they are loud, I need one that doesn't make much noise.
Is there any guns like that?

quote: Baseball bats can hurt very, very badly.
Do you have a baseball bat on your person at all times ? It is much more practical to cary a firerarm with respect to discomfort, logistics, etc. In addition, your baseball bat is useless if your attacker has ranged weapons or is close enough to grab your arms. quote: If I need to protect myself, all I'll need is something easily destructive; but I would not necessarily want to kill the person.
2,500,000 americans anually prevent crimes by merely pulling a firearm. quote: And pepper spray is useful for buying time
Not really, I have been sprayed when stupidly messing around with friends. It is quite annoying, but it will cause an attacker to lash out at you and/or kill you rather then run/fall/scream. Your descisions are yours, but I'd take a compact pistol over a baseball bat any day.

I think people have the right to own a gun, as long as you can handle it. Unfortunatly this is not always the case. But I do agree that people have the right to own a gun.

I think I will buy a gun for myself................
I THINK I know how to use them and if I don't then I will just learn. Also, I repeect weapons entirely so I'm not some insane person who wants a gun because it looks cool.
I want a gun for my personal reason!!!!! I will get it when I'm older though.

quote: Guns could become dangerous if you have a family, right?
anything is dangerous if you have a family, especially if you do not teach people to respect and understand certain things. Don't run with scissors and such. I have been shooting since I was 9 years old, by the age of 14 I was a pretty damn good marksmen. I have never shot myself, people I have shot with or anyother object, animal or human. I have never had a gun shot by mistake. I have been shooting for a long time. I was taught how to use and respect the power of a gun. I do own guns and I would never aim them at anyone even if I think they are not loaded. Before I hand them to anyone, I make sure they are not loaded. If more people were taught how to be safe instead of to fear guns, there would be alot less accidents. I could argue about some druggie going down the street with $50 and buying a stolen or imported gun to come and rob me all within 20 minutes. Or the response time of the police in the city, nevermind if you are down some dark alley. I could argue that it is harder for me to get a gun then someone who intends to commit crimes thanx to all the wonderful laws passed by morons....but it is such an old argument. People fear that which they don't understand, but what bothers me is why are politicians so eager to disarm the citizens.....?

But there will always be those who choose to break the law; most, though, will follow it depending on the repercussions. So if certain individuals are not legally allowed to own guns, they will most likely think twice before operating one for the sake of staying out of jail, etc.

Gemini-thats my point exactly; there is no point in such a law, it does nothing to prevent gun ownership by the people you're trying to stop.

But not legally. I never stated that they wouldn't be -able- to access a gun, but they -should not- be allowed to operate/own one (in a legal sense).

I have a couple guns in the home, and plan to get one for myself as soon as I can get a firearms licsense. Maybe an SKS-cheap, and reliable. I'm for gun rights, and fight over the subject online. Teddy-Your local black market is lways willing to get you a gun. You to illegally aquire a gun, there are no age requirments. And the police have no legal obligation whatsoever to protect you. As for the last comment, guns only become dangerous if used improperly, like anything else. Bex-I'd prefer living a country with huge amounts a legally aquired arms for the population. I would feel much safer then in an area were only the police have 'em.

Gemini, you say here that certain individuals should be allowed, meaning some shouldnt, ie the ones with C, the criminal record. These individuals will just get them anyway.

Who forgot them? I was specifically referring to those certain individuals who refuse to take the responsibility with gun ownership; not those criminals who will use them in whatever way they please, regardless of the situation.

I don't actually own a gun myself, but there are guns in my house (where I live now), my brother has guns (where I am going to move in a couple of weeks), and just about everyone I know owns guns. I am very pro-Second Amendment. Everyone should be allowed to own a gun. It's your right. And certain guns are not excluded by the 2nd. It applies to all guns.
Guns don't make criminals. Committing crimes makes criminals. If a gun is used in a crime, so what? It's just a tool.

I don't own a gun (because I feel I have no use for one right now) but my dad does. I believe that a person should be allowed to have a gun to defend his family.

Lol, you all seem to be forgetting that criminals who would be carrying firearms BREAK THE LAW. They will not turn in weapons or abide by the laws like John Q Public, and hence John is left without defense and Jack Q. Gangster is free to do as he pleases.

…Are bad? Hmm, I agree with Gemini that if only responsible people owned guns it would be all fine and dandy, it's when irresponsible people own guns that's a problem. I prefer living in a country where gun ownership is relatively rare. And I think gun laws should be tough and ensure that only people who can handle guns and have a legitimate use for them should own them. Well that's my take on it. Bex
