So are you suggesting we launch a bunch of ICBMs into the ocean?

1. The possession of nuclear weapons should not extend beyond the nations that currently have them. Countries like North Korea are far too dangerous and irresponsible to own nuclear weapons. While Russia may have some security issues with nuclear weapons, at least it is responsible enough to not use nukes as an international bargaining chip. Furthermore, the problems of Russia highlight the dangers of nations possessing nukes without the ability to secure them.
2. The U.S. should definitely stand firm in response to North Korean aggression, which is exactly what the missile test was--a display of aggression. However, the response must be equal to the action, or else it will be a provokation.
3. The military exercise was certainly a bit belligerant since it was a marked increase in relation to the US's normal training exercises in the Pacific. It's important that the US's responses be equal to the North Koreans' actions. While we do not want to appear weak, we also do not want to escalate. If North Korea independently decides to escalate, then the US has no choice but to follow suite.

I think this is a good chance to test out the new SM-3s and THAADs.
