No, we're not spoiled. We just happen to work the hardest for what we want and need, and, in the end, we get it.

I hope you're joking. You're right about the fact that we use many resources- So why dont we cut down!? Dont we, as a caring, kind, 'good' america want to help secure a better future for our fellow humans? Indeed our country as a whole is spoiled.

this is what i think. the American People, as a whole, are spoiled. but our country is one of the most prosperous, peace-loving, humane countries this planet has ever seen. we have done more to help the welfare of the world than any other country that has ever existed.

how are we NOT spoiled...im not trying to sound ignorant saying that i know more jsut because i am from a poverty-striken country, infact it is probably because i am more biased, but that defnetly makes my argument just as valid. The reason america has this image of higher archy over EVERYONELSE is because america has NO culture, NO heritage, NO history, NO customs THAT ARE PUT TO USE TODAY...that is why america is so great, its a melting pot for the whole world, to get a clean even shot, to be on the same level on everyonelse, whereas in there country they would be judged on caste, religion, and so forth. Being spoiled is not necessarily a bad thing, when something 'bad' happens in the world, they turn to us for help...but why should they hav to TURN... we (america) with all its 'prosperity and power' should be able to help ALL OF THE WORLD...but of course as many people pointed out during 'the war on terrorism' why is it our problem. Why does there hav to be a 'our' , we automatically look at america as seperate from teh entire world, if we just saw life and its problems as a world, everyone would be better off.

That is true to an extent. I think that we need to make sure that we are taken care of first. We can't even help our country fight A.I.D.S let along some other country. I agree to helping other countries, but we need to help us too.

Just so everyone knows, we do a lot to help other countries like just yesterday Bush signed somthing that would bive 15 billion dollars to Africa to help fight AIDS over a ten year period. America does so so much to help others. We even help our enemies. The world sees our humanitarian efforts and tries to discredit us. The UN is racist. they see millions and millions of Africans die each year in Ruwanda and Sudan alone and do nothing to stop it. Whenever there is a crisis and the US hears about it, we do somthing to help support and get that group or country through the troubled times. We dole out money and support in exchange for criticism. whats wrong with thtat picutre? It is so hard for us to please everyone and whenever we got to war with a country, before we go to war we ask for other countrys' support they dont give it. so when we do go to war they label us as unilateralists. After the 15 billion dollar agreement to Africa, there are still anarchists out there that protest "Bush lies" and "Bush is inhumane" when it is really the UN and NATO that does nothing to stop the human atrocities. We have been the most compassionate country this world has probably ever seen.

i dont think its they we are spoiled. i think its just that we end up spending all our money on ourselves, were spoiling ourselves, society isnt. we just dont know what its like for us as compared to the rest of the world. we think its normal to produce so much garbage and waste product and have large homes. most americans have never been out of the country. besides north america. europeans produce much less waste and recycle more and live in smaller enviornments. recycle america!

True, some people work very hard for what they have and many people give back to their communties by volunteering etc. But many people have more than what they need: 4 car garages, 12 pairs of shoes, 5 TVs. (I am not implying that I am above all this. I try not to be greedy, but living in the U.S. kind of demands this lifestyle.) And how can someone say that people choose to live in poverty or that their country chooses it? I've never experienced any form of government except democracy, but from my point of view it seems to work best. Many of these poorer countries do not have democracies and therefore it is not the people's choice to be in poverty. Their leaders are corrupt and power hungry. The people are oppressed and often, as in Cuba and Nicaragua, the people help overthrow their corrupt goivernment, bring in a new leader, and the leader will eventually stray from the orignial plan. So another corrupt leader, more oppressed people, the cycle continues. Also, perhaps the people can not leave the country. They have no money or can not get visas etc. They are not choosing to live there, they are stuck. Many people in the US are illiterate also. We are not all able to take advantage of the educationual opportunities we have- not that the public schools are great anyways(at least the ones in Detroit). Since the people in these poor countries do not have the opportunites we have, due in part becuase of their government, they therefore cannot be at falt for not knowing how to read or being able to provide for their family. Well, that got off topic a few times I think, but I do think Americans are spoiled. Most Americans think the world revolves around us. Many do not realize the complicated reasons for poverty and homelessness both here and abroad. (Contrary to popular opinion, it is very rarely a result of laziness). We need to pay attention to what we use, waste, and keep in mind how lucky we are. We an use our talents and the opportunites we have taken advatage of to help those around us and if possible go abroad to help also (PeaceCorp etc.) We just as well could have been born in one of those poverty-stricken countries with no opportunities.

We just have access to more things in America. The reasons some countries are suffering is because of their leaders choices. Are we supposed to help every country. I thik we should help less fortunate countries, but our hands are a little full right now don't you think?

America is very spoiled. we have nuclear weapons, but we wont let anyone else have any, especially the soviets. because we have the strongest navy, and air force, we think that we can attacck ay country we want. no wonder every other country hates us. if a country is muslum, and borders a terrorist country, we attack that country, and not the terrorist country. if a country opposes our ways, or we think that their ways are wrong or sinful, then we bomb them. not only that, but we go to school for 180 days in a year, when other countries go to school fo 345 days. and yet we get better jobs, more pay. we also are used to having so much oil, that when a country refuses us oil, we declare war on them. we think we can do anything.
the average body shape of an american also tells us of how spoiled we are. we are fat, eat too much

we are the worlds most spoiled country.period.i mean how can u say we arent? the poverty rate of america is about as close to nothing as it gets.no one starves to death here i mean we have the exacte opposite problem we need thearapists to help us stop eating!!other country need to worry about getting the food to stay alive.we have to decide if a twinke or two is going to help out befor we get triple bypass surgery.which is another point.i mean our generations is suppost to live to be 120.120!!! were going to be retired for more than half our lives if the retirment age stays the same.in other countries people have a problem keeping their children alive right after birth.we have running water thats purified because we dont want to drink any dirt.and some people in america make enough money to pay for hundreds of people in forgien countries.in other countries people get shot for voiceing an opinion.we have the opposite problem once again.we have to have commercials on tv to tell people to care.so are we spoiled?yes we are the most spoiled nation on earth.we dont appreciate all that we have and we complain because we want more,we tell other countries what to do and then spend billions on the military.for this question to even be asked is absured of course were spoiled open yyour eyes people look around and bask in the glory of being born free.

quote: Now, if you are talking about Congo or South Africa, then that's another story.
I think that's more along the lines of what she's talking about. Also countries not in Africa, such as Sri Lanka. Besides, I don't consider Puerto Rico a 3rd world country.
