Everybody is afraid of us. And either they hate us or want to move here for "oppurtunity"...so do i think america is spoiled....Yes and No....spoiled is not exactly the word i would use because i usually use it to refer to my younger half brother...when an appropriate word comes to mind ill be sure to post it.

oh yeah even if u work for it that doesn't mean that u blow it away recklessly....
oh yeah, that's definitly true. not everybody works hard, and some that do work hard don't get anywhere. college graduates can turn out to be bums. it depends on the person, their luck, and their stubborness

yeah some americans are spoiled. but there are americans who hold a sign on the side of the road that says please, even a dollar will help. i'm one of the ones who can't get a car when i'm 16 unless I help pay for it. some americans have to work their butts off for everything. some, (like PARIS HILTON ) gets everything handed to them. yeah sure some americans are spoiled. but there are some who aren't.

I think that America is spoiled. However, it is okay if we compensate by realizing this and using what we have to help people in need.

We are "spoiled" so to speak but we had to work hard to get here. Also, as you can see by poverty rates, not everyone is spoiled in America, though the country as a whole is. It's only because we've worked for it though---it's not as though we were just handed the cash to do what we wanted with it. So, yeah, we're spoiled, but in a way we have a right to be.
Also, the freedoms we have contribute to this. In having as many freedoms as we Americans have (obviously we don't have to get married at 16), we aren't forced into some of the things that teens in other countries are forced into. It's just our way of life and our lifestyle as an American. In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with us being spoiled in the way we are.

of course what else would you think? We just say we're "better off" than the rest of the world. But yeah we are spoiled and we take it for granted too. People never realize it till they leave the country. If someone has an idea on what to do about please share, i'd like to hear it.

quote: I think America is spoiled, and we're eating too much and polluting our environment way more than we have to. For example, why is it that we HAVE to have strawberries in the winter? I think it's better if we stop having so many cars on the road for no reason.
I agree completely lemonpepper. Americans put WAY to much of a strain on the environment for absolutely no reason. It really bugs me when people in America spend millions of dollars of fancy clothes, cars, and high tech toys that they don't need when there are people all over the world who don't have enough food and medical care. quote: I would keep 3rd world countries 3rd world. Sure feeding them is ok, but once they start to try and get up to the american level... can you imagine that?! they will use as much resources as us, and the ozone will be gone in no time.
Bauhaus that is one of the dumbest things you've ever posted. The "American level" as far as polluting the environment should not exist and if Americans would take simple steps it wouldn't. And no country should be allowed to stay in 3rd world status, not while there are human beings living there anyways. Now when aliens move in that's another story....... quote: I don't think that it's fair to say that 3rd world countries should stay 3rd world. If we're so bright we'd use other resources so that we weren't damaging the earth so bad. Actually we are bright enough to do that, but other resources are cheaper... Heaven forbid we save the planet but lose money. *sarcasm*
Jazzey, you think up the best stuff...... quote: We throw extra food away. We don't care about nickels and pennies. We buy clothes then a couple months later don't want them anymore. In that sense, yes, we are spoiled.
Ditto. CelticNewAger, I don't consider Puerto Rico a 3rd world country. quote: Some kids in america get married at 18!
At 18, heck I know loads of people in America who get married before 18! The problem is that in America it's not culterally acceptable.

America is definitly spoiled. But that doesn't mean there isn't poverty and suffering in America as well in other places. Every night before I go to bed, I think how fortunate I am to live here. Countries in Europe are well- off, but they don't buy possessions like we do in the U.S. I feel like this country needs to do more so if you can vote, make sure you vote for someone who will aide other countries in need.

No, I don't think America is spoiled, just we have more fortunate people that other countries. There are some people in American without cars, that are on welfare, living on the streets, and there are some people in 3rd world countries that have a lot of money and are spoiled rotten themselves. The countrys not spoiled, just certain people in it. The marriage thing is just a whole cultural thingy. Some kids in america get married at 18!

Well, coming from what Americans think is a "3rd world country", you're wrong. We don't get married at 14 or 16, we choose who we marry and when. We have cars. And we don't starve. And we dont wear loincloths. And yes, Puerto Rico has the largest mall in the Caribbean, and in Latin America, which puts us in perhaps the 5 largest malls in the American continent. In short, the countries inferred by Americans to be 3rd world are usually not. Now, if you are talking about Congo or South Africa, then that's another story.
Anyways, I think that Americans are spoiled. But I think they should appreciate what they have more (visit Antigua and you'll know what I'm saying). The prob is, say if you fall as an economy (like it happends to all world powers), you're likely to go crazy becuase life is not going to be the same. But, I just think you should brace yourself for anything and appreciate what you have. Nothing good lasts forever.

America is got to be THE most spoiled country in this world. We share, but not enough. We need to actually start helping other countrys and get rid of our image that we are better then everyone else and that if it wernt for us those other countrys wouldn't be there today. I have talked to people over the internet who are from other countrys, and all they say is that they hate our country because we are power hungry even if we are full of it. I have to say I agree to! So I think it's up to us this generation to re-create our image and help people around the world once more.

quote: we just have more access to knowledge and resources and we take advantage of that.
We take advantage of it...we take it for granted. quote: Did you guys know that Sudan had been in conflict war for the last 22 years. You see some of the teenagers don't even know the meaning of electricity, water on tap not to bring in technology.
Yes, it is terrible. quote: A country like America where a person can drive a gas guzzler to buy a cigarette down the street or stay as much as 5 hours on the internet daily is blessed but becomes spoiled when it doesn't recognise this endowment she has.
I COMPLETELY agree. quote: Do not feel guilty for accumalating wealth. Sure, pray for the needy and the disadvantaged,
Of course we shouldn't feel guilty, but we should do more than pray. Yes, it's the governmen's fault, NOT the starving people's fault, NOT the parentless children's fault, etc. It's our right not to help them, but I think we should. We spend millions of dollars to live in magnificent houses, when we hardly need a house that big. Instead, that money could go to feeding helpless children. And really, a person doesn't even have to donate money to help. Writing to congress asking that they pass bills that will help the people of Sudan and others would help. We shouldn't feel guilty, but we shouldn't ignore the problem either.

That's the thing though. When I think of American's being spoiled, I think of how often people forget that we are indeed blessed and that other countries don't have what we do. We throw extra food away. We don't care about nickels and pennies. We buy clothes then a couple months later don't want them anymore. In that sense, yes, we are spoiled.
Enjoying our liberties and freedoms doesn't make us spoiled. Enjoying a democracy and a fairly good economy doesn't make us spoiled, but it's if we appreciate it or not.

Third World
Therein lies the entire underlying theme of any anti-capitalist question like, "Is America spoiled?"
See, if governments would not persecute, kill, destroy and damage their own people, cities and countries, then we wouldn't have Third World countries.
Only capitalism can bring those countries up to America-status.
Spoiled? No.
Blessed? Tremendously.
We're materialistic, yes, but spoiled? That's like saying, "Is the government spoiling us?"
PLEASE
The government here in America was created to protect our rights, not take them away or abuse them. Our government here was to protect private property and enforce the rule of law.
Do not feel guilty for accumalating wealth. Sure, pray for the needy and the disadvantaged, but don't feel guilty for living in the greatest (and only capitalist) country on the face of the planet.
Spoiled? Only an anti-capitalist would ask such a thing.
Third World countries got to be third world because of governments and their failed economic systems.
Misery, poverty and disease are a direct result from much of what the governments do and have done.

I think that Americans are very spoiled. I'm thankful every day for all that we have and for our freedoms.
I don't think that it's fair to say that 3rd world countries should stay 3rd world. If we're so bright we'd use other resources so that we weren't damaging the earth so bad. Actually we are bright enough to do that, but other resources are cheaper... Heaven forbid we save the planet but lose money. *sarcasm*
